This is more peacock style; Willie Brown is more inclined towards conservative style, I'd say.

Sort of like Sammy Davis Jr.

The first pic is probably some church gathering or other type meeting. A similar get together by the "white man" will probably yield a lot less people, if any, in suits. The black community still takes pride in dressing up for certain occasions, even if you think their taste is quite suspect. You would be hard pressed to go to a black church and find a man not wearing a suit. You would be hard pressed to go to a non-black church and find a man wearing a suit.

Yes, it was the funeral for the singer, Jackie Wilson. Jackie Wilson was a stylish fellow as well; this looks like a plaid A-line double-breasted top coat:

I'm also reminded on how JLibourel(?) went to a funeral once and remarked that most of the people were in things like khakis and even shorts which is frankly, somewhat disgusting.

Mac Fleetwood was always a sharp dresser...Not to be confused with Fleetwood Mac which would be the whole band...

I used to work out at a gym next door to a predominantly African-American church. After a while, it was just too embarrassing to walk through a crowd of beautifully-dressed churchgoers while wearing schleppy gymclothes, and I had go later in the day on Sundays. I really admire that congregation's sense of occasion.

Willie Brown may be too conservative business dress for some, but there is no denying that he is -- and has been for 40 years -- a sharp dressed man.

Neither am I, but it is SF. We have to give him a little leeway.
