The guy made everything himself, even the bolts.

Is that for real? It looks like a slurpee machine.

It's liquid-cooled which is why it has those canisters.

This is apparently the guy that made it. It's not his first.

If that were minimalist and not so tech-tacky, it would be much more attractive.

It seems while these tech-geeks have some intriguing ideas, their sense of esthetics is irretrievably skewed towards Star-Wars kitsch.

I believe they are the same type of people that would "pimp their rides". I have a minimalist aluminum case by Lian Li.

I wouldn't pimp my ride but I am considering pimping my PCs! I've been looking at that stuff because I'm considering watercooling the new computer I'm building next week.

Those Geforce 8800 blowers measure at 45dba and easily dissipate 150+W. An overclocked E6420 puts outs around 120W. I haven't been in to the overclocking thing for quite some time but the E6420 OCs from it's stock speed to over 3GHz on air, which makes it too attractive to resist.

My number one priority aside from speed is silence though. I want to run my system near-silent, or at 25dba tops. I'm hand-picking every fan, gonna line the case in insulating material, put rubber gromnets between the hard drives and cages, rubber gaskets between the fans and their mounts, etc. Basically Anything that vibrates will be decoupled from the case.

I'm almost certainly gonna watercool the htpc too because the noise is really pissing me off when listening to quiet music.

You guyes gonna tell me that these PCs don't look cool?

(don't actually like the case he used but the interior is really well-done)

I know what LK thinks, but kent, you're a nerdy kinda guy, right? Surely you can appreciate this level of geekery?
I can't speak for LK, but the thing that has always unnerved me about guys who do this sort of shit is that their tastes in most everything else are bland, subdued, and boring. It's guys in bone Old Navy cargo pants and logo T-shirts driving forest green Hyundai Accents to their homes full of mom-and-dad's discards/Value City Furniture fusion furnishings.

It frankly has an air about it not unlike the quiet guy with the freezer full of Red-E-Serv human heads.

Water cooling = good, oversized and glowing incessantly = bad. I consider Lian Li to be the pinnacle of aftermarket case design. It's everything a case should be: light and well designed for what an aftermarket case is supposed to be designed for. Truth be told, I prefer Apple's simple monochromatic aesthetics over most anything, but you can't easily build a PC gaming rig in a Mac Pro case. Perhaps LK would prefer one of these?

No, I do not want lights or windows. How is that any different than installing lights on the undercarriage of your rice rocket? And what makes you say I'm a nerdy kinda guy?

I love my blue LED case fans.

I run an Antec Sonata III. A nice simple piano black, handy front inputs/outputs, blissfully quiet.

Didn't you say you did CCNA at 18 and started teaching kaplan at the same age? That makes you nerdy. Sorry kent! It's a good think!

What is that really?

Someone's never heard of rack-mount or blade servers! Linksys routers? No wonder we keep going down. ;p
