My New Suit Blazer...Any Opinions?

Dear All,

Long time follower of the forum but first time post here. I just grabbed an RTW Kiton blazer and would like to hear your opinions, mostly about where should be fixed or changed?  By the first look of the picture I think the length may be too long. It's about 2"+ below my butt line, but it's a 3 roll 4(3.5) button blazer so is it supposed to be this long? Are the sleeves too long as well? How about the waist? It's my first Italian and I have heard that Italian suits tend to have tighter waist, I guess it should be tighter than this? Finally sorry for the jeans.

It looks too long. A jacket usually looks best when it cuts you in half visually. It should probably hang down to your thumb knuckle or higher. The sleeves are too long.

The shoulder looks good.

The arms look rather full. Maybe just the angle but it isn't flattering.

Neapolitan jackets typically have fuller waists. British cuts will have more waist suppression, but that's an easy alteration anyway.

Post in the tailor thread for feedback from an actual tailor.

Is it orphaned from a suit? In which case take it back, it will never look good?

Why?
I have never understood this rule that people stipulate?
(All things being equal and providing the jacket fits well and is made from a quality cloth).

take it in to a tailor, and ask their one to one opinion.   basically, just get it adjusted for it's purpose.

Enjoy!

Hi again everyone,

I had my suit tailored to shorten the length and sleeves, and narrowed the sleeves so that they wouldn't look too baggy, and here's the result. When I tried it on at the tailor it looks ok, but after I returned I became not so sure. Do you think the length may be too short, considering it's a 3 roll 4 suit jacket? How about the overall proportion right now, especially about the pockets?

^ IMO you ruined the proportions and balance. It looks like you shortened it about 1.5" to 2", which is much more than is advisable. The pockets and bottom button now look conspicuously too close to the bottom of the jacket. I've successfully had a jacket shortened by 0.5", and based on my research on SF, this is about the max a jacket can safely be shortened without throwing off the proportions. So, sorry to burst your bubble, but I think you should abandon this thing. And besides... a four button jacket? Really? puzzled.gif

You are correct.
Now it looks like an orphaned suit coat that has been shortened too much.

It was pretty awful before and was certainly an orphaned suit coat, you have now turned it into an abomination fit only for burning, a kindness to both you are this rag.

I agree but, if you ask for comments then you must be prepared for that to happen.
