Not much shopping in Houston but honestly I hardly shop in person anymore. The Class Room seems like it carries some cool brands

yep the shopping scene is pretty barren here. Food is another story, lots and lots of great places to try depending on what you like. Provisions is a nice casual (though slightly overpriced) place that I always recommend to friends who've never been. Paulie's has great pasta. Tons of tex-mex though that's less my vibe as I find it too greasy.
All the Asian food you need on Bellaire Blvd (my faves Banana Leaf for Malaysian/Singaporean, Hong Kong Cafe for HK classics and Fu Fu for xiao long baos)

There's been entire months of no rain here in the bay area too... we're in a pretty bad drought.

In Houston, any places to check out? Any sfers here?

Bene, after you hit up the record store, you should get drunk and go to the race track. Nothing like betting on horses to bring out the wild outfits and the fisticuffs. (I once ran into Bob Nastonovich there -- super guy). Just don't go to the shopping malls; you might get caught in the crossfire.

back from the dead... actually just happened to be getting new classifieds ready too.

anyway, in houston i recommend going to the james turrell skyspace at rice university. it's beautiful. if you go at sunrise/sunset it's supposed to manipulate the sunlight in a really cool way but i've never been around for it. it's still quite cool at night and during the day. http://skyspace.rice.edu/

the museum of fine arts is close and is worth checking out. there's another sweet james turrell installation that serves as the tunnel between two of the buildings in it. you should also go to the butterfly exhibit at the museum of natural science since it's so close. i go there like half the times i visit houston.

you should also try and find mushrooms or acid for all of this.

there's other good places in the museum district like the rothko chapel and the menil museum. that's all i can really think of for now. i'm only in houston a few times a year these days so i don't know too much about what's going on.

try to stay in an air conditioned environment as much as possible.
