Its probably in your head. I actually would love to do an fMRI when people eat the same food item but are given different descriptions of it. I bet cortical regions are differentially activated.

That being said, good ethical reasons to not eat caged chickens

sean brock's book makes me want to try some heritage chicken breeds. The modern chicken was actually invented by part of a contest held by A&P in 1948 about who could grow a bird with the largest breast. Modern chickens are actually all descendants of that bird, which is relatively removed from the original wild chicken.
