With Tactics, I found the game started off really hard. Every boss battle I'd win I would barely be clinging to life by the end. I'd spend a lot of time getting into random encounters in order to boost my HP/MP, etc. Because of this, I don't really remember the story all that well, as too much time would pass between chapters. Also, once you reach a certain part of the game, it becomes too easy. The final boss is really lame, and when it tells you "congratulations! This game is complete!", it's like what?! That was abrupt.
For Sephiroth, it really helps if you have Knights of the Round. You can destroy his first from casting it once.
I mean the combat system was different in Tactics, but the story was as fleshed out and in line with any of the other FFs if you care about that kind of thing. Great cut scenes as well. It was just an incredibly fun game that had a high degree of execution in most areas imo.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. Actually I don't think I've ever actually beaten any FF except for Tactics. Maybe 6.... I remember taking on Sephiroth too early in 7 and fought him for 1 hr before i crunched the math and realized he was outhealing all my damage and never played again.
