Keep the metal buttons, throw in triple patch pockets, and that blazer is still too business for those pants. The blazer it fine. The pants are fine (and fun). The blazer is mid-business. The pants are super casual. I just don't think they jive together. Their levels of formality are too different.

------

On a broader note:

I think that how something appears is always more important than what it is. A blucher is more casual than an oxford, but if I see a blucher than looks more formal than an oxford, I'm going to go with my brain rather than orthodoxy.

More on Donn's pants. Adressed to Clags. You're not from New England, are you? That sort of pant, along with Nantucket Reds, Vineyards Lime and other solid colors that suggest washed by salt spay (seaweed in Don 's case) are popular summer wear here, de riguer in some circles And often with a navy blazer.

+1 from another denizen of the Rocky Coast.

spectre: I think it may be taking it too far to match your dog to your clothing.

re blazer: The shirt and tie aren't as casual as the green pants. Full stop. Setting aside the "inherent" formality of the blazer, that conflict is where this combo falls down.

There was a discussion some pages back about mid to light gray jackets? What was the consensus? @spectre and @Pingson

Pingson, I suspect you have some fit pics of how you would wear with darker trousers. Light blue shirt and donegal blue or brown tie might be easy.

My sentiments.

@SeaJen did something similar successfully last week in the Friday challenge and Nii doing it without a tie

Yes! That's how you do it.

BTW, I know the fit is fine but I laughed at JHT652's 'casual Saturday' picture above, given that for my 'casual Saturday', I'm wearing an old Beastie Boys T-shirt, baggy linen harem pants and bare feet.

Cheers, @kulata. I am a fan of GTH pants, I have several pairs of magic mint (eh @Pingson) red, patch madras, etc.
Buy, I agree with the comments regarding Don's outfit...too much business up top. It doesn’t take much to bring it into coherence though. Lose the french cuffs and replace tie with something with a little more whimsy.

To be honest, the reason I haven't entered this week's FC is because the most me-ist look is the one I wore for last week's challenge.

My sentiments.

Lighter jacket with darker trousers seems to be one of those great divides on SF - either you do it or you don't. I am known as one who does and usually don't even thing twice about it - heck I even hosted a Friday Challenge on light jackets and dark trousers. As for the specific combination of mid-grey and charcoal here's a fit I am quite happy with:

I have done a number of iterations on that theme and I actually have two different mid-grey herringbone jackets - one tweed and one in cashmere (unfortunately the trousers don't show up in a few of these pics but they are the same as in the pic above).

@DonCologne , I like the trousers. Especially because the shoes are also fun weekend shoes. Rock on!
@Pingson , this is a lovely ensemble. I am on the camp that is all for light jackets and dark trousers.

Celebrating the start of the weekend with cigars, good friends, Mojitos and G&Ts...Sorry about the blanked face.

@Pingson the flawless gorgeousness of that jacket goes a long way to selling the idea. But I'm also a wearer of light grey odd jackets, so you get my vote. Nice tie, by the way.
