One notes that Claghorn is originally from Texas, a place which invents its own etiquette, or ignores such niceties entirely. Besides, no matter how bespoke the kiwi, it is a well-known fact that ratite birds are terrible shots, as one would expect, having no upper appendages of any sort.

You're broadly right though - in Europe at least, those challenged were generally offered the choice of weapons.

I think there is much truth there, but I'd much rather "ape" Cary Grant than the Bond movie characters: D Craig's too-tight dinner suit with no braces, waistcoat or even just a cummerbund, is simply barbarism, and the disgustingly handsome Roger Moore was completely undone by Gucci horsebit loafers in my book. And well-tailored though he invariably was, one couldn't really wear a dive watch on a NATO strap with a dinner jacket as Connery did, nor recommend loafers for chasing megalomaniacs around hollow volcanoes and the like. It's important to be choosy!

Actually I think a little tapering might be just the thing, especially as you like to wear your sleeves quite long (me too) - the combined effect of wide and long at the wrist is to make the jacket look big for you, which as you've said, it isn't. But if it met your wrists on more even terms, I think it might be just fine. Also, there's nothing at all untidy about your "unstructured" number - lovely I think.

I really like this, despite my aversion to button downs with suits. Looks terrific. Are those shoes burgundy? Perfect colour for the outfit.

(One of my pet peeves, hate it when people do that. I spend a lot of time on my shoes and they just go and cut them off!)

Bugger the office. I used to wear them as a journo at press conferences with footballers, golfers, tennis players etc. No one seemed to bother. In fact, now they are quite popular with footballers, who have upped their game considerably. It's great that pocket squares don't get a second look in Melbourne now. YMMV.
