Thanks! And for those not being caustic biggrin.gif :
  • Navy odd trousers discouraged.
  • White shirt worn casually.
  • Northern lights.
Thank you! The jacket is Formosa via NMWA. The fabric is Drapers. The shirt is Borrelli. The pents are Rota, also from NMWA. The shoes are Carmina--a GMTO through Gentlemens Footwear.

I'll throw my hat in the "no rules broken" ring. Navy pents can look great (as you prove). White shirts worn casually/sans tie can look sharp (as you prove). Northern lights can definitely look nice (as you prove).

All in all, a great outfit, and solid pair of birds to the "rules!"

Only on SF can wearing navy trousers and a white shirt be considered an "advanced scheme".

I had the fortune to meet with Madame Crespin at a function in Paris, sometime in the early 90s. Very much a true french diva. Very, very funny and frank, not least about some of her colleagues.

Only on SF can you realize how often people screw it up.

DT, what are your thoughts on Tombolini? I picked up a green tweed sport coat made by them, not knowing who they were, but admiring the cut and cloth. I haven't seen much about them since.

In fairness, I think the same can be said about literally any look in men's style lol.

I've seen more navy suit/white shirt/simple dark tie/black shoe abominations than I can count...

I have this sc and a suit, very happy with both. Similar in both cut and quality to brands like Cantarelli and Boglioli. Yoox usually carries some of their stuff. But you need to be careful, some of their stuff is too "fashion forward" for my taste. Short jackets, very slim cuts, gaudy details. But they can make a very decent "normal" suit too when they want.

I won't get too far into this, because it has been discussed at far too much length in the past. However, I would suggest that the reason you see more terrible navy suit combinations is because people attempt them more. If you were to look at it as the proportion of a (failure) / (attempt) ratio, I believe the ratio would be far higher for navy trouser, light jacket combinations.

Interesting. The jacket I have is so classic that I'd have been surprised to see anything too fashion forward from them. Thanks for the heads up.

Everything from Tombollini I have seen at Yoox has been super short and fashiony. I've returned so much stuff there I've stopped bothering.

Tombolini is kind of mid tier, mostly half canvased stuff. DT compared them rightly to Boglioli, Cantarelli etc.
One local store I sometimes buy from (not Tombolini though) carries them and has actually started their own "brand" that's made by Tombolini in Italy. Good when on discount.
