You'd need a lot of good friends for the Ninth. Like, about a hundred of them.
I haven't seen "Conspiracy". A good friend in Shanghai once told me that his favourite piece of classical music was the one featured in Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon". Oh, I said, that's the slow movement from Schubert's Piano Trio in E flat, and we're performing it next week. He was thrilled to hear this news. "I'm definitely coming to that!"
And come he did. He arrived fifteen minutes before the scheduled start. Unfortunately it was a full house and they wouldn't let him in!
I had a more prosaic understanding of "play" in mind (putting on a Bruno Walter recording or something like that)--though I'd love to think I will merit a full orchestral sendoff!
