Today: summery low contrast fit, for a change.
New Finamore tie makes a terrible knot.

Great suit. Love the pick stitching. Where's it from?

@An Acute Style the cuffs look like a bit much for those pants.

"Wearing a tie that is either too long or too short is another give away. In an ideal world the tie should reach the top of the trouser waistband with both the front and tail finishing at the same length. If this can’t be achieved, better to have the tail slightly longer than the front. Often the rise of the trousers can cause the tie to be the wrong length. "
from drake's website
Drakes seems to be tailoring their advice to their sprezzy clientele. Shorter back blade is more common AFAIK

Your pic gives me hope. Maybe I can find a use for chestnut oxfords.

The bottom fit's spectacular, IMO.

I'm not looking to be combative but I'm wondering why some stuff makes it to the front page? The tie is nice by itself, but why black shoes? Your structured shoulders, suit and shoes screams business and then you throw a casual tie and PS on. It throws the look off.

I would not call that tie particularly casual, but I would say that brown shoes would have rounded out the ensemble better.

Stefan, the tie and pocket square both look nice but I agree that brown shoes would have been a much better pairing with the brown tie.

My mum always used to tell me that people should never wear black and brown together and I think that her advice would have served you well in this case!

Is it brand-new? If it was tied before, ties often form a "memory", that is the (hopefully wool) interlining "memorizes" where you put the dimple. If you do it wrong the first time, it will be hard to get it right again. But +1 on the wonderful suit!

There was a debate about this in Whnays recently. Some were adamant that brown suit + black shoes is fine. For me brown + black = cognitive dissonance. Black's town, brown's rustic.

Those are nice low-contrast colors, Elio.

Thanks for the positive comments, gentlemen. I appreciate it.

AAS, the suit is Attolini MTM.
Pliny, the shoes are technically not oxfords but 'swan neck wholecuts' (EG Ladbroke). The rather unusual model and the chestnut colour makes them the exact opposite of versatile. On top of that, they develop the typical ugly wholecut creases... New, they looked terrific: sleek & modern. Now, i have a kind of love-hate relationship with them, I guess...

Sander, the tie is new and I think the poor knot may have to do with the silk that's been used: it's unusually thick and heavy but feels incredibly soft. It seems to miss the springiness that you usually have with silk. It doesn't bother me that much, but still, a nice and neat dimple would be better. As a tie expert, what do you think, can it be the silk that's the culprit?

@Stefan88 I'm sorry to say, but real brown shoes would have been better. Chocolate suede, for example.

Tbh, that's really hard to tell from a distance. Normally, thicker silk results in less wrinkling and easier knots. But what you say about the softness sounds uncharacteristic for thick silk. Another possibility is, that the lining slips a bit, causing more creasing. Finamore does wonderful ties normally, but every once in a while, there might be a not-so-perfect one. Again, almost impossible to say without handling it personally.
