HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014) - Page 1988

As always, thanks to everyone who posts pictures of themselves and who like my pictures.

In Chapter III "Appearance Counts" of his 1983 book "Class", Paul Fussell discusses how American real estate developers use British words to make their developments appear to be upmarket.
Exactly how many Americans will think that the sign behind me is upmarket I do not know.

I do know that no one from the UK will find the combination of the most downmarket sport in the UK (football), an unfashionable part of London (Camden Town), and the London Underground to be particularly upmarket.

Brooks Brothers jacket and blue and white University striped OCBD shirt, Little Shop Of Horrors (Metropolitan Museum Of Art Store) wool Celtic Knot tie, Squarextraordinaire pocket square, Viyella (55%-45% Made in Scotland) sweater vest, Hebden Cord cavalry twill trousers, and Allen-Edmonds Lombards......

......and before someone says, "I can't see the Celtic Knots in your tie", here they are......

.....and anyone who has ever worked in the Metropolitan Museum Of Art Store will know why I call it "The Little Shop Of Horrors".

Because they are forced to sell ties like that? rimshot.gif

But other than the tie, which isn't really that bad, this may be my favorite @Roycru fit in recent memory. Are the trousers a bit slimmer than usual, Roy, or is it just the heavy crease? Either way, fantastic.

Girrrrllll, let's get you out of that holiday spirit and into a dry something more reasonable.

Or do whatever you want.

But what do you say we all stop pretending that we actually put our hands in our jacket pockets? That includes you, @Koala-T.

Or do whatever you want.

Thread Starter

Is this like "don't put your keys and phone in your jacket pocket"? I definitely walk around with my hands in my jacket pockets (with the jacket unbuttoned). I don't think I do it when it's buttoned (but I might on occasion if I'm standing still).

Anyway, more is revealed of why I wear almost exclusive patch pocket jackets, even with suits.

AAS, that cardi is too long for that use.

@Roycru excellent.  Actually Camden Town is now quite gentrified with property prices soaring!

Really nice jacket, tie, pants and shoes, but I think the socks are too informal and the double-cuff shirt too formal. Color-wise I love it though.

I need to be less bearded for something coming up in a few weeks, so started over (sort of)

Strange coming from me, but there is such a thing as too much blue. Where's the bag from? I think I need something similar.

Now that's definitely one or two patterns too many.

The Friday Challenge this week is "break a rule and make it work". I am breaking only two rules today - one sartorial and one sociological. The sartorial rule that I'm breaking is "no slip-ons with a suit"; the sociological rule is that it's Casual Friday at my office. I leave the efficacy of my rule-breaking to the viewer.

Suit & tie - BB
Shirt - BB MTM
Cufflinks - Longmire, London
Vintage watch chain
PS - RLPL
Shoes - Septieme Largeur, Paris
Overcoat - BB
Scarf - Paul Stuart
Hat - Selentino, via JJ Hat Center, NYC
