HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014) - Page 1843

Today, the weather has cooled enough such that it is possible to wear this rig without ending up in a pool of sweat. I've not worn most (or all) of today's attire since last winter, and, though I have no reason other than my own sense of grandeur (or, more likely, grandiosity) to wear this attire today, I've chosen it.

Suit - N ew & Lingwood
Shirt - BB
Tie - Charvet
Braces - Lewin
Cufflinks - Longmire
Vintage watch chain
Boots - Paul Stuart
Hat - Selentino, via JJ Hat Center, NYC

Just received some new-to-me chukkas, courtesy of @Ironist, and this was my first attempt at 'em. I don't think I hit the mark - too subdued/low-contrast up top for the warmth of the snuff suede below.

Suggestions on what to change? Would just swapping the tie to something more saturated be enough, or do you think it needs a different jacket/trews? Que lastima.

I tried the @Coxsackie "walk at me, bro" shot... It came out blurry... (Click to show)

I think the upper block is ok. I would ditch the khaki colored trousers in favor of something with some more color...maybe some cords or moleskin...that would work with both your upper and the chukkas.

@Braddock bot fits are very nice but the first one is so similar to one I was thinking to wear to a christening very soon... I decided yesterday what I was going to wear and then I see this haha ^^ what a coincidence (of course yours is much better for sure).

Thanks very much for all the feedback and suggestions, guys.

I agree, the snuff suede just stands out in contrast to the subdued colors of the rest of your outfit... But we're being picky here and it still looks good just not optimal. Rust would be great, especially if you have a nice patterned sport coat to match it. Or it would be a lot easier if you just gave up and wore jeans or chinos sans tie and sport coat.

Give up? GIVE UP!? Who are you, my dad? But I do plan to wear them with denim and nice chinos probably would have been better here as PCK1 also said. I'm lacking in the more casual sportcoat department but have a couple ideas.

As for the "walk at me" shot, I have the camera set to rapid-fire shooting (not sure what the technical name is); focusing to "continuous" or "tracking focus". High ISO and wide aperture so that shutter speed is fast. You will end up with about twenty photos, of which at least one should be vaguely acceptable.

Does the extraneous "u" in "colour" mean EXTRA color? For sure, though - needs moar colour. Thanks for the tip on the photo; I'll have to see if the old Canon Rebel I'm using does that. Also need to probably increase the shudder speed?

Good suggestions. What are "rims" in this situation? I only know about "20-inch blades on the Impala" type rims.

Hadn't considered cords; you don't think the top block is too conservative/formal for cords? But I do think the color of these flannels requires more pop on top. I didn't consider just how close they were to khaki when I picked the swatch. I recently had the pants lengthened a bit, which even though added more break it also made them appear less tapered. Still not 100% ecstatic on the fit, and having a higher rise (my first try at that) with the flat front in this color seems like a vast landscape of fabric up there, but they're better than they started!

Cheers!

I agree, as it happens. I cycle to work, and while I'd brought the tie in the wear with a completely different outfit, but when I got there, the temperature was lower than I'd expected, so I went with the tweed. It wasn't perfect, but sometimes less than perfect is okay.  I have a couple of paisleys, some knits, and hopefully, a soon to be arriving rust neat that would all work better, and no doubt they'll be given an outing in combination with this suit over the winter. :)

BTW, I should just add that I really like what both you and @DiplomaticTies are bringing to the forum which is, for want a of a better term, a touch of contemporary dandyism and idiosyncracy. I think this place does very well for the mainstream classic fits these days, better overall, in fact than it used to in the old days, but it has been lacking some of that eccentricity and adventure recently.

Not often out of the closet these trousers, seems like difficult to match lately. Once it was easier. Just like black shoes; once loved - then ambivalence entered the relationship. But here we go:

Have myself a pair of yellow Peccary like yours, from Sermoneta - Rome. With cashmere lining. Quite nice. Have to brush the dust off them as the winternights approach.
