On stage at Alice Tully Hall this afternoon.
Tux is vintage Canali, shoes Carmina, shirt is Giampaolo and bow tie from Henry Carter. Weird that I was the only male in the cello section.
Yeah, but they're pretty good as loafers go. @Cleav, I hope we'll see more of that jacket (perhaps with chukkas?) in the autumn!
I am just giving him a hard time. That is his first pair of loafers and a couple months ago he was telling me to just say no to them. Now I've sold mine and he bought his first....pretty funny.
Yeah, f* that noise. That is my only trepidation, but I think my pleas of "only adjsut it a little" have hit the mark. I don't remember, though. Anyone have the amnesia effect where you go for a fitting, seemingy looks good, and then you forget everything you just saw after walking out of the shop? I can't hold a mental picture. Maybe this is why people take photos.
World Civic Orchestra. A mix of high-end amateurs and a few pros.
Program was Brahms (3rd symphony), Dvorak (cello concerto) and some small pieces. Our soloist, Hai-Ye Ni, was playing on a Giovanni Grancino from 1796. She showed it to me. Superb-looking instrument - the spruce table was to die for. We were in a bar at that point, so I couldn't play it. Shame. Story of my life. Last year I was in Japan and our soloist for the Brahms Double had a Gofriller. Same deal - I looked, but didn't get to play it. I think I might just go back to the hotel now and cry myself to sleep.
Oh yeah - the Andrea Amati, part of a set of eight for the Medicis or something like that. I believe it might be the oldest cello in existence. Who owns it? Who was playing it?
We were in the basement bar at PJ Clarke's around the corner, I was tipsy, and there was no way I was cranking that sucker up with no Bach suites.
Yeah, I really like that M51. The whole thing there is just the cat's ass, really. Nice fall tweed, cord jeans, field coat: looks like something I'd wear, now that I think on it.
I just got a vintage M1943 and was thinking about taking in the kinda poofy sleeves, but yours look very nice there. Who knows—you're a bit leaner than I am, maybe it's one of those things you can pull off and I can't. That cap is definitely one of them. I look like a fool in those for some reason.
