I still feel I still have a way to go and need advices for both fit and colourcombo. Thus I'm open for suggestions.

I have one suggestion that isn't related to your fits per se, but it would help if you'd put your camera higher. Preferably around chest height. Perhaps on top of one of your awesome speakers would already be quite an improvement. It will give a better impression of fit and proportions of what you're wearing.

Those shirt sleeves are too short. But in general, showing cuff, while nice, is less important to me than many other elements of a fit (ie doesn't bother me much, though of course, showing is better)

If you are commenting Heldentenor's, isn't the problem rather the jacketsleeves; that are a bit too long?

Of course I know I can do whatever I want but I'm trying to see if there is some classic reasoning behind a style choice I see many posters besides these two I referenced making. If this will derail things let me know and I will take the question elsewhere.

Just nitpicking, but I do believe that @heldentenor's jacket sleeves are a little bit too long, and @Claghorn's shirt sleeves do appear too short. At least, judging from the pics they posted.

Yup, these are about 1.5-2 cm longer than I'd prefer.  I like to show a sliver of cuff when possible.

A picture with my latest acquisition.  Nothing new, menswear-wise, but whatevs.

@heldentenor thanks for clarifying that. I was wondering because I vaguely remember reading some style book that suggested that SCs and suits had different cuff-exposure needs and I wasn't sure if the guy said that SCs shouldn't show cuff or that it simply wasn't necessary. Or maybe I just dreamt the whole thing.

Yes.

I care about sleeve showing in principle, but like most things that’s a result, at least in part, of upbringing.  I was taught as a child that roughly the same amount of shirt cuff should show below the jacket cuff as shirt collar should show above the jacket collar (‘1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of linen’ , as we used to say).   As a result of that conditioning I tend, on first impression, to see the upper body, when viewed directly from the front, as framed by a triangle with the three points being the collar at the top and the two sleeve cuffs at the bottom.

Of course, in real life we’re not always looking at the upper body directly from the front with the arms hanging loosely from the side, nor is the person we’re looking at frozen in a robo-pose.

More generally, because of SF’s dependence on photographs, there’s no way to avoid a somewhat static and thus to some degree unrealistic depiction of fits.  In real life we’re three-dimensional, as are the people looking at us, and more often than not one or both are in motion.  In real life there can be, for example, a world of difference between a well-tailored pair of trousers with proper drape and a pair that merely fits correctly, when the wearer is actually seen walking.   When in motion, a fine pair of trousers can be a beautiful to watch move.

Regarding sleeve length, I aim, as said above, for 1/4 to 1/2 inch of sleeve showing when standing upright with arms hanging limply at the side.  But I’m well aware that that’s not a position I’m often in, and thus at any point in real life less or more will actually be showing (and ‘less’ will sometimes mean ‘none’).   I take all this into account when looking at other people’s photos, too, of course.

Cheers,

Ac
