I thought it was SF doctrine that grey SCs automatically sucked, and yet this looks pretty bada$$ to me... I just don't know what to believe any more...

More that grey jackets lack versatility - cos grey is versatile for trews and top/bottom contrast is important. Grey SCs can look like an orphaned half of a suit if they lack standout SC features like texture, patch pockets, swelled edges, bold pattern etc

Choc I generally love your fits, but to my eye this could be 2 mismatched suit halves.

IMO a good grey jacket is a b/w herringbone tweed, a heavy wt Donegal, a cashmere or silk/woo/linen large plaid etc

Front blade, 4 inches from the tip. It's kinda small, so i might try wearing it. We'll see.

I have been that angry at myself only once before. Kids, never open packages while distracted.

I broke a buckle on some Vass monks rite out of the box

I disagree Pliny.. while it lacks texture or patch pockets that designate a S.C the pattern on the jacket allow it to be a stand out SC.. infac I bought it as a SC.. there is no way with the zig zag pattern I would feel comfortable wearing it as a suit...if it were a plain worsted wool jacket with very litttle to no patterns, then I would agree..but I would disagree with my jacket..where I do agree is that it is very limited with what I can pair it with..because I dont see it working with navy flannels, brown or other number of colored odd trousers..but it is a S.C..

FWIW In the pic that's what I see- a smooth solid grey jacket in a standard 2-flap + besom configuration. I can't make out a zig-zag.

But I can see that it fits well.

Seems to be a very small houndstooth/check, a pretty standard suiting pattern. Anyway, it would look awesome with the matching pants, but it's not a bad look as is. Just wish the shoes were darker brown.

never said it was not a standard suiting pattern..I said its not my steez so I would not feel comfortable wearing as a suit..as for the shoes I think it provides added color to a gray palette..but thats neither here nor there..

Don't know if you saw my previous comment, but the tie and the shoes really pull the whole outfit together. Love it overall.

Trying out some burgundy trousers today:

ime, I might try this with a more muted tie and perhaps a white linen pocket square.

Like the tie, love the shoes, dunno bout the cutaway tho- I think it may be too formal for a navy blazer let alone one in mid-blue, patches and contrast buttons. Fit looks perfect.

In the office today..

I did the same on a beige jacket! Good dry cleaner luckily.
I was so excited opening a package last year that I cut the tip of my finger off...a friggin' chunk of meat! I got blood all over the jacket...it was terrible.

Just hoping that makes you feel a little better....at least it was only a tie.

Thanks for the kind words! It's also a knit(pique) shirt so I think that drops the formality a little.

The fabric's like this but blue:
