Sweet, GMMcL.  You, Anden, and Betelguese have got me thinking seriously about a couple of cardigans.

Those loafers are sick. Is that what the kids are saying these days?

I think this may be the last spin for the camelhair. I had a camel-colored camelhair jacket a few years ago, and I just didn't get on with it. Thinking it might be the color, I tried again with this olive jobby, but I think it may just be that I don't like camelhair. At least not for sportcoats.

At the time, it would have been a lie. Hated them (I wasn't a happy camper at that job).

Now when people ask, I tell them it's a hobby, and if they show the slightest but of interest, I whip out....

...my iPad to show them my pictures.

Sorry for the poor quality and lighting of photos - I am still learning.

Looks classic and solid. A bit hard to get a look at the fit due to the way the shot is composed...but looks quite worthy of the forum.

Shot is really lousy for assessing the outfit....but I am pretty sure that tie is not going to get a lot of love on this board, I like the boldness of the look...but I can guarantee that others will not. The lighting is making it pretty hard to get a good grasp of the colors as well.

Look CM, nine hundred and ninety-nine out of a thousand people would look at that first fit and think he looks very polished, put together and professional. Would it survive The StyleForum Groupthink Chamber of Horrors? Of course not. But the guy clearly is focused on dressing his best and is here because he is open to improving...so I'd rather be the person who is positive, encouraging and welcoming as opposed to joining in on a game of "Let's Shit on the Newbie."

I fully understand your opinion about the knit tie not being too formal for the rest. But for instance look at Sean Connery in several Bond movies wearing a knit tie (usually navy or black) with a white shirt and a grey or blue suit.
Regardless, the outfit I wore was my interpretation of CBD where I purposely chose to combine the less formal tie with the rest, as it was perfectly suitable for the occasion and environment. I'm quite sure in this day and age, the occasions where this type of combo is not acceptable are rather few in numbers.

Knit ties are more casual and rustic than ordinary ties, and though Bond wore his with formal city suits they’re more appropriate with tweed and the like.

I wear silk knits with suits too.  With a navy suit I'd go with a different color than black-  not enough contrast.

Crazy, but I like it.

Eh, I wouldn't classify any black accessory country/rustic on the city-country spectrum. Which is why I have a hard time with this idea that the black knit is versatile--kind of belongs on the island of misfit ties, imo.

I don't believe I was defecating on anyone. I think you have read for too much into :uhoh:

What is the problem with the self-stripes? Is it something only asccociated with inferior, trendy clothing labels? I ask because I have a suit I picked up with these stripes just before I joined SF. Not looking for a fight, just curious. It's amazing how this place gives you new eyes. Hated cuffs until just recently from lurking here. Before I'm through most of my closet will be at the Goodwill.

So what makes a chalk more legit than a self?

Well said, sir. Bravo.

I don't think CM had ill intentions.
