In the heads of others as well. It really would make the outfit a costume. At a certain age, for whatever reason, this ceases to be true.

In Seoul I often wore beanies when it got cold. Probably didn't go well with the rest of what I was wearing. But fuck having cold ears.

I agree. I'm in my early 40's and it's disappointing that I can't do a hat, neckerchief or ascot without feeling like I'm wearing a costume. Last year I purchased a panama, and I think it went off okay on summer weekends. I don't care too much about how I'm perceived, but as I get older I think I can get away with more and more. My inner old man is definitely an ascot wearing guy … he'll just have to wait a bit longer.

I'd have leaned towards an oxford or a sleeker blucher, maybe even a monk. Something about five-eyelet bluchers read to me as a bit too conservative for that rig.

Fortunately I don't frequent sporting events smile.gif As for yellow or ecru - I have always shied away from those colors as they remind me of my childhood (late 70s early 80s) when men here wore brown suits and yellow shirts - all cheap. Perhaps I ought to try to get over my fear though. Is it worth having an ecru shirt in your wardrobe as part of the essentials for shirts?

Yesterday, from our last day in Florence. What you can't see in this picture is that I have a bad cold, but forced myself to do one last day of tourist-y stuff. Cropped the pants out because they'd been worn too much last week and started to loose their crease, it was mid grey flannels though, with medium brown suede chukkas.

Amazing! (I'm not totally down with the sock-less-slippered vibe, but...)

Cleav, suede and gray looks great! I did something similar today:

Sartorio gray super light flannel chalk stripe, kiton sale tie with brown/blue/orange stripes, suede belt n shoes

Nice sweater.  Sorry about the cold.

In re:  touristy stuff.  I hope at some point in your life life you've visited the Duomo and its Baptistery.  My favorite Florentine sites.

Cheers,

Ac
