GMMcL's pic reminds me why a spread collar is always superior to a BD (IMO, YMMV, etc.). G, is the jacket on the short side, or is that just the hand-in-pocket pose?

It reminds me why you should never wear a BD with a tie.....like never never. Nothing personal GMMcL...

I think it looks terrible. Not saying it is wrong or "against the rules", it's just ugly.
I wonder if that collar just isn't the right size. It looks tight.
GMMcL, a spread collar isn't inherently formal. A spread might be *more* formal, but a shirt in that same fabric with a soft collar would look fine. Does the jacket CYA?
SANDER - where to those suits and shirts come from?
JHT - I think the tie is the culprit here. Needs to be navy solid, or maybe brown solid. As it is there is a lot going on with the gun check, dot tie and colourful PS (which I like with a more monochrome outfit)
I actually think that was a really nice use of the darker shirt, but it would certainly be a bit safer to go for a lighter one.Very nice, but I think a paler blue, pink or even - shock! - white shirt would be even better here.
