Yes, but usually with a bit of irony to the formality.  It's a Viennese thing.

Sounds like a great trip, BTW.  I look forward to some photos.

Cheers,

Must admit I had to google it. Still not sure whether el stitcho was paying me a compliment. Probably not.

Sadly, I guess a "rapey look" is the old bugger's equivalent of "bedroom eyes". (My wife took the photo.)

Here's what I wore today, in context (more or less).

Lots of Canali in this fit - jacket, pents and shoes are all from that august Milanese house.

This is pretty good, AAS. I especially like how well the butcher stripe and plaid work together; it's not a match I would think to make. The relative quiet of the tie and square help pull it together. In fact when I cover over the (very artfully arranged) square and then uncover, its amazing how much that little detail balances the whole look out. I guess there's something calming about the bond between the shirt and square that quiets things down a bit. In this case matchy matchy is a good thing, imo.

I'm not always a fan of the final result, but I really dig your style and the fact it is so unique to you. This one is a definite winner, although the square and ascot look like they could be a bit matchy (could be different IRL of course).

Been there, done that - fifteen years or so of a Van Dyke, which was removed to great acclaim March 2011. A moustache is not in my future, as it would come out grey.

My sense of Vienna, from my previous experience 20 years ago, was that every social exchange had an ironic undertone to it. There is no accident in the fact that the science of psychoanalysis was invented in Vienna.

Images of Atatürk are everywhere in Istanbul, regardless of the current regime, and he is still regarded as the father of modern Turkey. Ironically, many of the images are either photos of him when young, wearing a red fez (with brilliant blue eyes), or are portrait photos done in a studio without a hat.
