Hah thanks for all the advice. We've actually found a hopeful way out - our landlord had hired a handyman to paint up some scuffs around the apartment, but my room has several that were not painted (and I did not create). We're going to see if he wants to have someone touch it up, and in doing so, just paint the entire thing. I'd be up for painting it myself, but it would be a huge hassle - I travel M-Th/F, so weekends are hectic enough as is.
