For our next makeup, a pair of derby shoes in natural CXL, as shown below. specs are:

Model: Derby shoe

Last: 2030

Leather: Natural cxl

Sole: Double leather sole (natural) with Dovetail heel.

Eyelets: 5 in antique brass.

The makeup would look very close to the shoe below.  That shoe was made using a sample leather and than waxed.  A natural CXL will look as similar as we can get it as a production shoe.

Have at it, gentlemen.

Cheers,

Fok.

Personally I like the brass eyelets like in the picture.

I would like to vote for the 6 blind eyelets. In my mind, it actually makes the shoe just a tad bit more versatile in that you could wear it with something that comes closer to a business-casual look, particularly on a 2030 last.

Might even consider brass eyelets, but would prefer 6 to 5.

Brass eyelets look better with natural CXL.

I really don't have preference in the amount of eyelets but love to see why you feel 6 makes a big improvement l. Just might move me over to 6

I couldn't find a picture of a truly plain derby (or blucher for that matter) with nat cxl and blind eyelets, but to get a sense of the leather itself with blind eyelets, this is what I found:

Totally agree. I think I'd be in for 5 eyelets, brass or blind. Something about 6 eyelets on a non-dressy, non-sleek shoe bugs me.

Forbidden message... can you just post the photos?

As a reminder of the patina that develops with natty cxl, please see the photos in this great post on a pair of Alden PT boots after 1 year of wear:

Last message from me at least for today. The thing about the 2030 last is that it actually is pretty sleek. My 2030 service boots look more like a dress boot in shape than a work boot. But natural cxl is certainly not a dressy leather--far from it--and I like the contrast. The eyelet thing is not a deal breaker at all for me, and I even like them as pictured, but the 2030 last is, in my opinion, not at all what a conventional work boot last looks like--thought that is what I like about it.

5 brass would get my vote. 6 feels like the spacing will be off to me with the eyelets quite close together

I agree, which is why I think this could work (i.e. the final product look good)...but I still think the 1035 might be more true to the "derby" definition; it is a wider toe box and seems closer to the shoe pictured.

Has Viberg ever done a shoe in a natty cxl? I'd love to see a pic.
