Best sunglasses? - Page 2

Persol is offering great sunglasses...Classic and deliciously unfashionable in a lovely way....
Rayban are allright, not as good as some people may think but they have a fantastic brand image...
After ,it all depends on your favourite designers....
If you do like Chanel and the famous 2C or the G of Gucci ,go for it because sunglasses are sunglasses......

Francois Pinton.

They made the iconic sunglasses for Onassis (and, I believe, for Jackie O.):

Quality wise, Maui Jim & Revo. IMO Revo has a better selection of styles of the two.

for persol, it is best to buy an vintage pair, marked "persol ratti" on the inside of the arm. they are now owned by luxxotica, purveyor of shitty glasses, and the quality has slipped a bit. luxxotica has also just purchased oakley, who owns oliver peoples and paul smith glasses, so watch out for faltering quality in those as well.

I haven't bought sunglasses for a long time but my last memorable pairs were Persol....
I did have a pair of Rayban ,the classic one,and they were very well-made but it was 20 years ago....
I will be lost now to choose a pair without falling onto the designer/big names trap...

Duh, Cartier vintage aviators? Gucci makes quite nice sunglasses too.

Maybe some real tortoise-shell ones.

I really think buying sunglasses is hard work. That's why I made this topic. There are just so many brands/designers and styles to choose from.

I loathe most things Louis Vuitton but I was dragged into their Geneva store last summer and left with a pair of Conspiration M sunglasses. Gradient (darker on top, lighter on bottom) amber lens, tortoise shell frames, very classy. One of my favorite purchases ever.

My wife is a Louis Vuitton fanatic!!!! It started with the bag ,now the purse and so on.....
Sunglasses are for me unchartered territory and i would like to receive some advice....
I tend to be wary of the big names such as Burberry's,Chanel ,Gucci or Versace....
The bigger the logo is ,normally the lowest the quality is!!!!!
Apart from persol and Rayban ,any great sunglasses brands without a massive logo?

just FYI, all of those you mentioned, both good and bad, other than Gucci are made by Luxottica.

The main problem with designer products is that they're subcontracting some of their lines to differents specialist brands.....
It is very hard to have a full visibility of what you're actually buying.....
The same is applying to the shoe market....
You're buying Ralph Lauren or others and finish with a pair made by a brand you do know want to buy shoes from....

Do gradient lenses provide the same protection?

One of my main rules is that no logo should be visible when you wear the glasses. So that luckily screens out almost all trashy fashion brands.

I bought a pair of Oliver Peoples for my GF and she loves it (or so she claims - she also says I'm a sex machine).

What do you think has the best optics, purely optics? Oliver Peoples? Do those ultra highline brands like Goldsmith and Mikyta have noticeably superior optics?
