Most useful iPod Accessories

Thread Starter
Hi all, my family just gifted me an 80 GB iPod for my birthday.............so, yes time to accessorize. I've gotten a pair of Shure e3c earphones and looking to get a nice case, car adaptor, external speakers and whatever else.

Applying all the rules of style, fashion, and function what are your recommendations to complete the package?

Get a cassette car adapter versus the FM transmitter.

The sound quality is much better, especially considering that anytime you are in or around a decent-sized city with a bunch of radio stations, you'll pick up interference.

less is more... I'd definitely skip the external speakers because they sound like crap. All I have for my video ipod is a rubberized case and my etymotic er4p earphones...

+1 I got an FM adapter on whim once and it was basically a waste of money. When it does work, the sound quality is abhorrent. I went with a clear case from Agent18.com. It's just a thin plastic casing with openings for the controls and jacks. It went on the first day I got it and my white iPod still looks absolutely brand new when the case comes off. I'd skip the external speakers. You can save a lot of money and get much better quality by simply getting a line out adapter and plugging it into your stereo or computer speakers. I just use the headphone jack and a cheap analog cable into my Klipsch Promedia 5.1s when I want to use it at home and it does pretty well in a pinch.

+100. I would highly suggest putting music on your iPod. As for external speakers, may I suggest the iHome- I have one in black at work and it works beautifully. Sound quality is very good too and it even doubles as an FM radio. [/infomercial] JB

Saw them in the local TJMaxx yesterday. You might check there if you're interested. I think they were $69.99.

I just had a little streetside woman make me a denim iPod case out of the chopped-off-legs of someone else's jeans. The cost...5000 dong. 30 cents. The look she gave me when I asked her to do it...priceless Viet Nam Muon Nam

It sounds like you've already got the best accessory covered. I have the same earphones, and they're unbelievable.

If you're looking for a table radio to connect your iPod to, consider the Tivoli Model One. It's got a much better sound than the iHome, and it looks 100x better IMO.

QFT... Ignore any of those small iPod docked speakers; most of them sound horrible. The Tivoli's sound great for the size, and looks great too.

Etymotics er6i. They keep your ears alive because I've noticed that I need to listen at a greatly reduced level due to the sound attenuation, aka earplug effect. Great sound too. And pretty cheap.

The Concertino looks great, and I'd love to hear it. However, $3999???????

I haven't read reviews, but I'm guessing for $4000, you're paying more for the aesthetics of the design and nostalgia value of the tubes. Much better spending that on an actual tube amp and speakers; there are numerous tube amps coming out of China that have been popping up in recent years.
