T4,

I started another thread with my thoughts on all of this.

actually, take up this point.

Can I make a request to the thrift store junkies who are always posting things like 'came across orphaned Oxxford jacket with cigarette holes that didnt fit for six bucks' and ask them to buy such things, gut them and photograph them for the sake of the forum.

This is a great thread, and Id love to see the innards of some other garments thrown up here.

It would be interesting to see several makers jackets. I may be able to snap some pics of an Oxxford jacket a local retailer has. I will check.

No one would argue with that point. The issue is "where is the 25 hours of handwork?"

Just remember that if it is a display jacket to show the work, it will look nothing like the real thing. The ones at the Brioni store look like the finest 100% handmade jacket in the world. I imagine that a full opening would not show that to be true.

Agreed. I've seen some Corneliani display coats that have been opened to show you the inner workings.. it looks incredible, but the reality is very far removed from what you are shown. Also, some of the big boys at Pitti have the same types of display.

Good point. I think it would be a display jacket in this instance.

That's blatant false advertisement and misrepresentation! I think it's time for a class action lawsuit!

Jon.

If anyone saved them or could find them, I know Chuck posted some guts pictures of Oxxford, and maybe others, some time back.

When the AAAC gang had breakfast in Chicago, there was one man who wore a cashmere sports jacket that was to die for, he stood out form the rest of us. Fit him perfectly, it was amazing, after breakfast, Chuck and I asked him what he was wearing, it was a Kiton. It sure did not suddenly become junk because of the sewing style used on the innards!

I have made my point, they never claimed it was all hand sewn, just hand made.
As Manton said, some of those steps are key steps, but the end result is still great work and world class fabrics that few can touch.

The Truth, in you opinion, who makes an equal or better garment?

How do you define "hand made?"

I save myself all this aggravation and wear only MTM Kenneth Cole suits.
