AWL & SUNDRY: OFFICIAL AFFILIATE THREAD

Thread Starter

Welcome to Awl & Sundry’s official thread.

We are super excited to be a part of this fantastic community.

Awl & Sundry get its name from the English expression “All & Sundry” which means for everyone. The word “Awl” refers to a tool used to stitch the upper of the shoe to the sole signifying our hand welt construction process. Awl & Sundry is an online only men’s fashion label that allows men to design their made-to-order shoes.

Awl & Sundry offers unparalleled customization in 6 quick and simple steps. Designers, as we like to call members like you, can select:

·     Style (Oxford, Derby, Monks, Loafer)

·     Last (5 different lasts)

·     Design features (Toe, Vamp, Eyestays, Foxing)

·     Shade of leather (29 in all)

·     Texture of leather (Calf plain, Calf suede, Calf grain, Ostrich, Alligator)

·     Laces (21 variations)

·     Stitching colors (21 variations)

With the above options, there are more than 2 billion design permutations in total! We understand that not everyone wants to build their own shoes, so you can easily shop the designs of other members

We at Awl & Sundry strongly believe in the power of expression and individualism. We see a world where people express their uniqueness, personality, brand, story, values and beliefs through the medium responsible for their first impression that is, their style. We are proud and very excited to be a part of this revolution.

We are based in NYC but our shoes are made in China. We have a small team of artisanal craftsman with over 100 years of combined experience who are handcrafting all of our shoes using Hand Welt construction process.  In other words, both the welt and the outsole are stitched completely by hand. We use full grain leather for the upper and source our leathers from tanneries in Europe and Asia. All our orders come with a pair of shoe trees, shoe bags and a shoehorn. Currently we are shipping only in US but we are working hard to open shipping internationally.

We want our visitors to feel at-home on our site and we are constantly looking for ways to improve. So, please feel free to email me directly at nmarvania@awlandsundry.com with any questions and suggestions.

Also, we are offering 20% off to the first 100 SFers on their first Awl & Sundry pair. Please reply to me (nmarvania@awlandsundry.com) with your email address so I can get the promo code to you.

Thank you,

Nikunj

P.S. we are doing an event in NYC on the 16th and 17th of May in collaboration with Esquire. The event will be held at 82 Mercer street from 10am – 6pm. Please stop by and checkout some of our sample shoes

Nikunj, very interesting process and idea, and I want to add in one suggestion. On the sizing page, nowhere does it say US sizing, yet you provide an international sizing chart. Without knowing that you ship only to the US, which I learned here and not on the site, I could very well order the incorrect size and have an issue. Should be a 60 second coding change and insure against human error.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion usctrojan31. We will definitely get this fixed shortly. Again, appreciate the suggestion.

You may want to clarify/correct/explain the goodyear welting/hand welting process before people come into this thread with their pitchforks.

Thanks for the feedback Edmorel. You mean the difference between Goodyear welt (which is machine made) and Hand welt (which is handmade)? We have a short two minute clip on our site which walks through the process.

The downside of this issue, which I'm glad Ed brought up, is that you are making the assumption that people will bounce onto the actual site.

I spent some time on the site and it is very intriguing.

I'm wondering, do you have any detailed 360 degree photos of completed shoes? I see a lot of what might be called "marketing" photos, but not any detailed ones.

Thanks GFDay. Yes, we are doing a photo shoot this weekend. I'll be posting some detailed pictures shortly after that.

Here is a link to a review I came across at TMF, in case anyone might find it helpful:

Sizing is confusing. Are they US or UK sizes?

They are US. We are working on adding that to our site.

Are there any plans for sole customizations?  Either different materials, weights, colors?  E.g. natural sole edges for a suede derby...

Yes, we planning on adding different color options for the sole in the near future. In regards to materials, we are considering adding rubber soles as well.

Very interesting concept, look forward to seeing more options. Would be great if you knew what part of the shoe you had clicked.
