What the hell is it about Disney? Regardless of your age, you just can't deny their appeal. Brilliant animation, great music, and most of all beautiful plotlines.

My favorite has (and I assume always will be) The Adventures of The Great Mouse Detective. It came out not long before I was born, and is one of the fonder memories of my childhood.

The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, The Rescuers Down Under, and Hercules are all close seconds.

Animated Disney movies since the mid eighties are pretty much all formulaic, inferior, marketing gimmicks.

Black Cauldron
Robin Hood
Sword and the Stone.

Saw Fantasia on a huge screen at a massive theatre in Moscow when the Disney bigshots took all their classic films there for a festival. Disney was then trying to negotiate a copyright agreement with the Soviets and they either sent over a new state of the art projector or completely refurbished the one the Soviets had...I forget which. Regardless, it was phenominal seeing it in those conditions and is thus probably my favorite Disney movie, although one of my earliest memories from childhood is being brought to tears when Bambi's mother is shot.

Thats funny. Bambi was intense for me too. Although in many ways it was a horrific experience, I think that it is a very good movie for children to see. Maybe over the age of 4 or 5 though. As a kid, Fantasia blew me away. To this day I cant hear "Night on Bald Mountain" without thinking of it.

"20k Leagues Under the Sea"

Although "Titty Titty Bang Bang" runs a close second. "Cherry Poppins" is a distant third.

Back to a serious note, has anyone else seen "The Three Caballeros?" I must have watched it a million times as a kid on BETA. I saw a clip of it a few years ago and realized 90% of it was Donald trying to get laid while on a peyote trip.

Yeah, I came out normal.

I'm fond of the old shorts with the beautiful whimsical art like Steamboat Willie and the Brave Little Tailor. A restaurant in Middleburg (the name escapes me at the moment as it's been closed for a couple years now, I think) used to have "themed" rooms, and the casual room and lounge area was called the "Cartoon Room", and it featured walls covered in Disney animation cells, many of them pre-war. It was awesome (as was the food). My favorite feature length is The Jungle Book, which is the last film 'ol Walt had a hand in.

On a completely unrelated note a gunshot just rattled my windows...

I watched The Little Mermaid last night and Mulan this morning. I think Mulan was the last good Disney movie, but it's not great.
