My Shoe Searching Journey in London

AppleMark

Last week, I finally made my way back to London, 30 years after my last visit. It was a business trip of sort, but I also had another mission: to visit as many fine shoe stores as possible (although I was mainly restricted to central London). While doing so, I was able to meet many of the famous figures of the English shoe industry. All (well, except for one store), were incredibly welcoming to this little visitor from the Far East, and I would like to thank them all for their hospitality.

Here are the photos from my trip, and I hope you all enjoy them!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Lobb St. James!

The (in)famous cabinets filled with rich history

A lovely boot

Extra fine stitching from their old sample

Jermyn Street!

Tricker`s

A nice interior with lots of history

Love the old shoe cabinets

Crockett & Jones. There is another one down the street.

Edward Green

A great collection of mainly standard models.

Ray, the elder salesman

Mme Hilary inspecting Sergio`s excellent shoeshine

Foster & Son!

Other than shoes, Foster offers a large selection of fine bags and accessories.

A new bespoke sample by Emiko

An old croc sample burnished with age. Perfection!

Another stunning bespoke shoe

Andy taking me through corridors after corridors of customers` lasts.

Faded finish on a newly completed commission (their new RTW model)

Piccadilly Arcade right across the street, anchored by New & Lingwood

Cheaney

Shoeshine @ the Burlington Arcade

Church`s. There seemed to be one on every corner of London

GJ Cleverley @ Royal Arcade

Bespoke and RTW samples

Teemu the shoemaker

Carreducker @ Gieves & Hawkes, Saville Row

Bespoke sample. Love reading their blog!

Walking down the Saville Row, the brand new G&G Flagship Store!

A sneak peak prior to their opening.

Lots of stunning MTO samples in exotics were prepared for the new boutique

Tony Gaziano & Dean Girling! A huge congratulations!

I also had a wonderful lunch with bengal-stripe, who shared some fascinating shoe lore with me. I wasn`t able to visit all the stores on my list, such as the Shoesnob / Timothy Everest store (too far), nor was I able to visit Northampton. Perhaps on the next trip, which is hopefully not far away.

Thanks! ...and I think I`ll keep the name to myself. Can happen anywhere in the world. I actually thought London stores (includ. eateries and bars) were very friendly in general and services were really good.

^I am suddenly reminded of mafoofan's treatment at a Hermès shop and the ever-growing SF thread that ensued. If you're willing to shrug off the ill will at one shoe store, living well will be the best revenge. Anyways, thank you for sharing some shots! Bringing something useful or new on the forum is a welcome breath of fresh typing amid all the snark and [insert brand] circle sports.

Sounds like a great trip, thank you for the photos. I like Tony G's jacket. Looks like it must be A&S or one of its expats.
