NOT AN ENTRY, wore this a few weeks ago, but

I rarely say this about your fits, but I actually didn't care for that one, Spoo. I think it's the rusticity of the trad details of the SC (and maybe the herringbone generally) juxtaposed with the silk and those city stripes.

Only have one yellow tie... I may participate.

This. But fortunately, I haven't worn it yet this year, which means it's due.

What is it that makes yellow ties bad? I'm not arguing with the idea that they are, just wondering why. Too light? Too bright? Lack of traditionally used MC complimentary colors?

Unfortunately (fortunately?) I got rid of the last of my yellow ties in my most recent LuxeSwap-related tie purge so I shall be a spectator on this one. Interested to see if anyone can pull it off and how they go about doing so.

As well you should. I'm sitting here in my yellow tie hoping that no one has noticed I'm in a yellow tie. I think it's working.

I feel like I've done a pretty good job of going back and finding / inventing reasons for (not) liking what I do (n't) like but I've got nothin' for yellow ties. They just suck.

I think that one of the problems with yellow ties stems from the fact that many of the examples we see are pale yellow, and pale ties are difficult to do anyway, and tend to the satiny. I can't see why stronger, more golden or richer yellows would not be an easy thing to get right - and especially combined with texture. Yellow as one element of a regimental stripe etc. would also be fine.

The point is that yellow ties are hard, not impossible. They’re just not versatile. Quite the opposite.

(1) Unlike staples such as navy, brown, and burgundy they have a seasonal bias toward spring and summer.
(2) As F. Monkey said, they are often light in tone.
(3) Unlike navy, brown, and burgundy, they’re more flattering to some hair colors than others.

Etc.

We all like seeing difficult things done well, and this is a difficult thing. This is what makes it a Challenge, I suppose.

Cheers,

Ac
