Looks like I might buy my first ever leather jacket

This looks better than the Junya, what's the most "fashion" leather I can get this in? Is there a softer, thinner calf available? I don't like the leather used on the original Junya, too thick, stiff, and shiny

Earlier 1mm "firenze" leather was mentioned, how is that? Any more info on veg tanned leather?

Also, why are there two snaps on the left lapel?

Which year of Junya did you try on? The leather varied from year to year. The original ones with camo lining were lighter than the later tartan-lined ones.

^ really? My camo Junya moto is really thick and heavy

I've never seen any of the Eye/Tartan ones in person, the camo ones are quite substantial, though, at least relative to other "fashion" jackets. Obviously that's a huge selling point of these for most people, I just prefer something a bit thinner and lighter

Given this jacket will be delivered by winter time, I don't think you'd want a "lighter" leather but do rememebr thurston will be able to help you with using a different leather, adjusting arm length and body length. Hence, your individual model can have the lighter leather.

If you are not afraid of the price increase (at least +$400), go for the vegetal dyed horsehide.  It is thinner, while being just as strong (horse is generally that way), and I've found high quality vegetal tanned hides to age very, very, well.  I've been debating that in a dark brown (unfortunately, color choices for vegetal tans are rather limited).  It's between that and the racing green for me right now...

I am not sure that you can go lighter than the Firenze, which is a midweight leather, but still considerably heavier than say, most things by Rick.

We do have to go with at least 2.5-3.0 oz. leather...anything less won't be of Vanson quality and they won't manufacture it...

The Z150 that Junya used is about the same weight as the Firenze, so both are good options.  However, the Z150 looks more like Vanson's Comp. Weight leather...

Keep in mind that once we have a size-graded and working design, you can specify any hardware that you'd like...

What are the options? I know you mentioned YKK and Talon, can we just get whatever as long as we can source it?

I'm pretty sure that it means you can use whatever Vanson carries. For this, you want something likeTalon, which is durable and easily fixable.

That's what I figured, is there a list anywhere? I.e. even within just YKK there is a big difference between the slightly oversized YKKs used in more recent margiela 5-zips and the ones you usually see.

Thanks for the follow-ups. Checked out a firenze Vanson, that seems to be a good compromise. I couldn't imagine wearing a comp weight leather around all day just for looking cool, jackets are heavy!

Any more info on that vegetable tanned horse? I much prefer veg. tanned hides as well.

Excellent, I am definitely comfirming I am in. I don't want to post too much about this but since several people share my opinion on hardware and some even messaged me about it I'd like to know what you'd suggest for the following aspects of the jacket:

-relatively light calf leather (I'm assuming the firenze is the best choice but just so I know)
-Thick and silver coloured (no bronze hues) zipper pulls/zippers
-Body that looks normal (no oversized sleeves, they end at wrists or long body -not rider short but still-) on a 5'8" size 45-46 (us 35-36) person*.

As to the design I am correct in assuming there will only be one configuration (i.e. I cannot replace the side tabs with a belt) or remove a zipper or whatever? I must admit I can definitely enjoy the side tabs so this point is minor.

*I'm a 0 in TB, 44 in Margiela, 46 in Lanvin, xs or s in RO etc. sizing varies a lot. I think that would make me brianSD's size but since he is quite taller I'm just wondering how we can both look cool in the jacket.

Oh and I am petitioning for the jacket to mention Vanson, thurston bro and Styleforum.
