The Rules

1. Tie has to be lighter coloured than the SC/suit. If you wear a patterned tie the main color has to be light.

2. The fit has to be worn this week.

This challenge should be fairly easy to participate in but to win you'll have to give it some thought. Wearing a bordeaux tie with a dark grey suit is not enough.

And no "sorry for the crappy iphone quality" excuses. My entry last week was shot on an IPhone. It is all about the light.

I have a south facing window in my office. White walls. I shot this in the afternoon with the sun coming into the room from behind my right shoulder. The wall in front of me acted as a reflector resulting in a soft diffused light but still enough light to give the Iphone optimal conditions. High ISO is not it´s strong point...

Avoid direct sunlight - the contrast will be too harsh and you'll get nasty shadows.

You have all seen master Pingson. He stands next to a (large I guess) window but never in direct sunlight.

Some inspiration taken from Tumblr. I hope the Armoury guys and Mr. Kimber doesn´t mind.

Strangely, it is also the lightest coloured tie I have here. I have several other lighter-coloured ties back home in Ontario. Conrad's site described the tie as being perfect with a light-coloured jacket, and indeed that is how I intented to wear it, but the French blue is also very nice with dark brown, I think and that is how I decided to wear it today and not just for the sake of the challenge.

Details:

Pal Zileri Abito Privato lightweight brown with blue pinstripe tropical wool suit

CT Black Label white self-stripe shirt

Conrad Wu Oxford weave French blue triple-striped silk tie

David Andersen mid-century Norwegian sterling silver tie bar

Anonymous vintage handmade Japanese yello silk square with olive edging

Gaziano & Girling Rothschilds in dark oak (with unseen navy blue socks)

PS: someone once said I was the splitting image of EFV - I think, looking at these pictures that I am perhaps more like the bastard lovechild of EFV and Cleav... ;)

Great challenge, I'm in icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif. I have a pretty clear idea of where I am going with this. We'll see if it works out....
Photo quality rant (Click to show)
As for the photos, yes I use indirect natural light (all indoor light sources turned off, mixing artificial and natural light is the a recipe for disaster) and also use a white wall to bounce the incoming sunlight off. While I normally use a DSLR, the iPhone camera can take beautiful pics under the right condition. I think Stitch take all his photos using an iPhone....

I spend a lot of time with my DSLR but for the fit pics I just can´t lug it around.

The dynamic range of the Iphone is no where near the DR of a good camera and that is why you need to help out.

As for good light - Ethan of the Armoury is a master. Look at his work for inspiration.

I shall give that a try. I have one wall of dark bookcases and two walls of glass, though, so nothing off which to bounce light. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

pingson is correct. all my pics are on an iphone. they get a little crappier if i have to adjust the color too much. if i can take the picture in optimal lighting and use the raw image, it comes out best.
now that i think of it, i can only think of one or two ties i have off hand that would qualify here.

That means you are in.

perhaps.

Great theme. I actually wore a light tie yesterday, but will try to put together something better later this week. Looking forward to seeing what combinations folks come up with.
