Three Piece Suit With Overcoat

Thread Starter

Hello. I am purchasing a semi-bespoke suit. It'll be a three piece suit and an overcoat.

I'm thinking a brown suit, but I'm not sure if I want to go with all matching color vest, or if I want the vest to have another color than the rest of the suit. Some advice?

Overcoats and suits are not normally bought as a matching set - the idea is somewhat stupid. Your vest should match the suit coat and trousers.

I'm not sure he implied that the suit would match the overcoat. Seems he's just saying he's buying a three piece suit, and an overcoat as well.

Yes, I was kinda hard to understand there.

Correction:

Should the vest have the same color as the suit, or could it be another color?

Also like GBR said, match the coat?

Don't get a brown suit. Not versatile. Navy, or charcoal.

The vest should match the suit. Absolutely. But as GBR said, no, the suit should not match the coat.

OP, how old are you? Where do you live? How many suits do you already have?

Veremund, I live in Norway, and I am only fifteen years old, and currently I do not know much about suits and only own one suit, which is a two-piece. I am a newbie and that's why I'm asking. The last weeks I've read more about suits and I'm going to get a new one soon. I appreciate all advice, tips and tricks :-)
