Inglorious ending for a retailer which I really liked. At least the original version. Less so the reboot. Anyone know what happened that caused its swift and untimely demise? Just curious.

Could be just good ol lack of sales. I had never heard of them until their closing sale and I am a pretty frequent online shopper

Or that there is too much shit out there... I see more and more 'obscure' online shops being discussed frequently, a year ago they were barely mentioned throughout the forum much less here.

Any examples?

I think a lot of the smaller boutiques which maybe 5 years ago were only brick and mortars now have a stronger web presence. That, combined with a lot of newer boutiques trying to compete in the newly-opened mass online market (bad idea, given the Porterization of shopper's expectations).

A couple of examples: Frances May in Portland is probably in more people's rotation than they were 5 years ago. Same with Roden Grey, Jonathan and Olivia, Nomad and the like. At the same time End has consolidated into a much stronger player for US buyers, it would seem, as have Tres Bien. These were on my radar more like 6-8 years ago and were popular then, but with Frugalmalefashion, this thread and the general rise in male fashion consciousness via web communities, I think they've gotten even more so.

Edit: All of the examples above had a web presence previously. I just mean in terms of exposure.

For any camera guys out there, Adorama has a pretty ridiculous deal on a Domke Propack 414 backpack. Was $169, now $49 for remaining stock.
http://www.adorama.com/DMPP414.html

Spoiler tagging mine since most probably won't care, but pics and description below. It really is a great backpack for a mirrorless or small DSLR set up.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Here's a shot of mine loaded:

I have mine configured to hold:
Fuji X-T1 w/Gordy handstrap & 35mm f/1.4 attached, since that's usually my most used lens
Fuji 23mm f/1.4
Fuji 16-55 f/2.8
Fuji 56mm f/1.2
Fuji 18mm f/2 under Gordy neckstrap
Fuji 50-140mm f/2.8 w/1.4x extender under charger (in bag) and filter nest
Nissin i40
Rocket blower under Fuji grip
Lots of accessories in pockets, extra batteries, SD cards, lens wipes, etc.

It holds a lot of stuff for a mirrorless system and IMO is a fantastic deal at that price.

This is paraphrasing a conversation I had with someone who was in the know (so I may be misstating things, mis-remembering etc) but the gist was:

1) The rent at their new place was insanely high

2) They'd just launched an in-house line, which took up peoples' time and responsibility

3) There were a few people involved in Carson Street, some of whom were more interested in the in-house stuff and some who were more interested in the 3rd party retail side. After some people left the people who were remaining didn't have the energy and wherewithal to try to rebuild and they decided the best bet would be to close the doors.

Do any stores have successful in-house lines?
