Really surprised that, given the price point, Slimane couldn't be bothered to use better materials.

Why should he?  Premium materials are a PITA to source and sometimes, to work with, and sneakers and jeans are essentially like fragrances - money in the bank.  While would you go increase costs when there is no demonstrated or even perceived need to do so?  Do you think that it would be a nice conversation for him to have with his board members?  "I want to decrease our margins for no really great reason."

Great discussion guys i read it all, its my honest opinion. You're right the toe box of the Achilles is round thats another thing i don't like of them.

Can we talk about how the Stark collar is just the right amount of roundedness?

Krish you have no clue what your talking about. CP's took the stan smith and elevated it. They opened up a new niche in the marketplace and a ton of brands rushed in. It has nothing to do with YSL. Look at how many brands look like CP knockoffs now.

This thread surely is the best one in which to discuss roundedness: http://www.styleforum.net/t/99388/great-back-doors-nsfw

So, to derail this further, I like a lot of Common Project shoes, but I actually do not like the Achilles, which I find to be really blobby but with a low profile.  I actually much prefer the actual Stan Smith.  Or the exaggerated Visvim version of it.  Doesn't take away from the contribution of Common Projects to their little corner of the fashion world, and that they have become the de facto uniform of the yupster creative.

Once again, a quoted shipping cost of $10.22 to send a belt from Portland to NYC has talked me down from the ledge of almost making a purchase.

$10 bucks is nothing, international shipping with Barneys is the worst its not flat rate and its like $50 to send one shirt

Wow.. that sucks.  I'm with you.  $10.22 is a bit outrageous.  Stopped my impulse purchase as well.

Yeah, a belt will fit in a small flat rate box, which is $5.95.
