Wouldnt id be the opposite where he actually would know since we tend to pay a lot more taxes and duties (buying things outside America I usually get taxed 30%-35% of my purchase shipping included)
And he's from Toronto, with the highest within-country tax rate of 13%. Morals seem way too high for the styleforum sale alert thread.

A retailer once marked down my CP's to the currency equivalent of about $30 I think. It was awesome.

Yep, and obviously you are smarter than me. Just wanted to advise others who are buying from SBoy that they should add the additional costs to amount paid so there are no surprises. If you're in Ontario, you know that you will pay duties of up to 20%-30% (check the tariffs chart) + HST 13% + any specific handling fees depending on the shipping company.

Why would you ask a company to risk its reputation and get into legal trouble so you can save some money? If the risk of paying 10-20% duties makes the item unaffordable, you probably can't afford it in the first place. Plus you're also defrauding your own country out of taxes. Jeez.

To me it looks like he just posted a helpful reminder that people should consider at-the-door charges when calculating the cost of buying. I don't see him calling SB a-holes anywhere, and since couriers routinely charge 3x actual duties now (I've paid 30%+ COD fees on all manner of crap even though the Canada Customs duty rate on clothing and accessories is 13%) -- money which goes straight to the corporate profit margin -- I don't think your "Jeez" is at all justified.

I should've quoted this guy instead, sorry about that. But I'm also not sure what sshum was hoping to achieve by asking them what price they put on the packages.

I stand corrected. Always forget Quebec is part of Canada.

When did this become the Canadians bitching about sales tax thread?
People need to get back to posting single use TBS codes.

I know there's a whole other thread related to this, but Brooks Brothers put a lot of stuff on sale very recently, and is offering an extra 15% off from tomorrow.

I asked for a pair of Swims galoshes for Christmas, and they were $100 retail, but by tomorrow morning they should be around $65 or so. You can probably get them a bit lower elsewhere, but they have all the colours and sizes in stock (so you don't have to buy bright orange if you don't want to).

Asking them isn't illegal. Them actually doing it probably is. Big difference.
