I'm pretty sure you have to suck it up and endure the rigmarole when you go through any of the major players (Mr. Porter, Saks, Neiman, Barneys).
The alternative is to not ship (directly) to an international destination. If you set up a shipping account with kinek.com
(it's immediate and free to do online) you might be able to ship there and avoid the customs issue.
When I did something similar (a proxy recipient for a Mr. Porter purchase) they required me to add the destination address to my credit card account before they would ship to it. But that's just an extra phone call and a few "pleases," i.e. a bit of a pain in the ass but very much worth it for potentially hundreds of dollars in savings.
