Is it not illegal for companies to charge VAT to non-EU customers? So is this "special deal" a promise to follow the law just for today?

Here we go again...

OK, you can complain about them still charging for VAT but shop somewhere else if you're not happy. If they still have the lowest prices considering, then you can pay that price or if it upsets you so much, pay more somewhere else. I assume most sane people would choose the former realizing that even if they're trying to get a bit extra, the prices are still good and can you really blame them? Retail is tough shit. Besides, isn't it illegal for them to mark down the value of items for customs, yet they do it for you assholes anyway?

hows the outerwear from gloverall? seen some online but never inperson. gilt seems to have quite a bit of their stuff...

Gloverall is nice, but they are not going to fit slim, even if you size down.

Sherman Brothers in PA is having a trunk show for Alden. 15% off, but you can only get it in store.

I am not complaining. I have no intention of purchasing for this retailer. I'd never expect a company to mark down stuff or send it "as a gift" if that's indeed illegal. But I mean advertising that you are going to stop your illegal practices for one day just seems odd, and not something that you should advertise.

They're technically not stopping their practices for one day. It's just that they decided to put out a 12% code on 12/12/12 because of all the qq that they charge VAT on sale items.

I've never asked for a retailer to mark down prices for me, and I'll also never buy from a retailer who doesn't take off VAT if I'm buying from outside the EU.

Hi,

Please stop "edit"

To answer to everyone asking the question:

We are two individual owners, Au revoir et merci website is the junction of the two small entities, and in France there is a special type of corporation that is exempted from paying VAT when selling.
But while you can go higher than suggested retail price, you can't go under... then you are free to refund VAT or not.
So to resume this point, In our situation, the VAT deduction that we apply on non-sale item, is a pure gift made to the customer since on each sale we don't pay it, and we must respect the suggested retail price, we do it only to to be more competitive, and actually I think that we are one of the most competitive store across the board.

There are also several additionnal reasons, just contact me if you have some additionnal questions.

Lou

Au revoir et merci.

Not to deadhorse-a.gif , but you guys need to keep in mind that many EU/UK small businesses simply aren't VAT registered in their respective country. This means that they do not pay VAT on sales, and therefore should not deduct it from sales outside the EU/UK (because it doesn't exist as part of the purchase price). If they become VAT registered, their prices increase by the VAT amount, which is deducted for applicable sales, and you pay the same amount you originally did.
