My plan is to be able to break this up and wear as separates as often as I would wear as a suit. Below are the two fabrics I am considering:

Birdseye:

Sharkskin:

Which one of these would coincide with the formality level and flexibility that I am looking for?

I wear double breasted as separates.  However, I don't wear dbs very often, regardless of whether as a suit or separates.  They are inherently kind of loud.  However, if you're set on one, I would make sure you see what it will look like first.  I've seen some pretty poorly designed dbs.  I doubt theirs would be bad, but I'd play it safe.

One key consideration here is to have other trousers and jackets that work with these materials (i.e.: have enough contrast, but still match the cloth formality level) if you're going to wear them as separates.

While I prefer the birdseye as a fabric I think the sharksin would be better as separates and as a DB. Brown can be a bit hard to pair though.

I just got the tobacco pants. Such a great colour. I was in the shop on Saturday and tried on the jacket, and now I'm fiending to get an MTM jacket made. It's haunting my dreams. If I wasn't paying for my wedding this month I would have ordered without a second thought.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I currently own 3 suits and 10 odd jackets (all single breasted) and 15 odd trousers in various shades of blue, gray and brown, so I feel like I probably have enough depth to incorporate the style and color.

My main hesitation is that this would be my first foray into double breasted land, so it does make me a bit nervous to commission one with no point of reference for fit/measurements. I would think that S&M could take my shoulder, chest, waist, sleeve measurements and some pictures of what I want, and make the jacket from that regardless of the style.

Call me reckless, but Rick has always gone above and beyond so I think that he will work with me to get it right. I'll make sure he takes a picture of it so he has a double-breasted suit picture for future reference for everyone. ;)

The SF MTM SUit special is tempting but I am untrustworthy with measurements and rulers....would it be possible to send you a good fitting jacket or measurements off the garment? thanks

Gentlemen,

What are some really great silk printed ties you would like to see us do?

Yes, but it still is going to be based on our Model 2. We can adjust the measurements to as close as possible to the jacket to replicate it.

Any particular designs or colour combinations?

I talked to our supplier, they are willing to knock down the quantity for printed ties as a trial run. So I want to make sure the designs we release are winners.

I like the kind of diamonds and medallions that Drakes does. I'd be all about some burnt umber, green, and light blue combinations.

I love these.
