I also noticed that a lot of the RTW shirts have the "wrong" collars, but it also seems like the RTW fabrics are not always available in MTM. Is this true, or are they just frequently out of stock? I'd love to be able to choose from all (or at least most) of the RTW shirts, but changing some details, like the collars.

Can you kindly clarify what you mean by this?

Not all RTW fabrics are available in MTM. A vast majority are or were and have since sold out. When we purchase cloth, we roughly keep 80% for OTR and 20% for MTM.  Because of the time/production lag of OTR, the MTM fabrics generally are offered before the OTR shows up for sale.

Well, maybe my language was a bit harsh, in that the collars seem "wrong" by my preference, but maybe not the preference of others. For example, I'd prefer if a shirt like this was a button down collar, or something softer, but it's the exact same collar that's used on a business shirt, like this.

These are things I'd likely change on a MTM order, but last time I looked through the available fabrics, I didn't find much that interested me for that particular need I was trying to fill at the time. I hope to explore this avenue with you through future orders as I'm on a budget and I would welcome the savings you offer over Luxire.

At the end of the day, you have to supply according to the demand. For myself, however, I look for smaller collars or button downs for casual fabrics (floral patterns, ginghams), and large spread collars for shirts I wear with ties. I still commend you for your semi-spread collar design, and would love to implement it on the university stripe oxfords if they become available for MTM.

I'm wearing a blue oxford cloth dress shirt.  I went a little crazy and got it with an extreme spread.  Actually all three shirts have unfused extreme spread collars.  Two were average price shirts and one was a Thomas Mason cloth.  For the TM, i opted for MOP buttons.  Both shirts are white/blue striped.  The one on the right is the TM.  It has a very thin bengal stripe.  It would appear solid even during normal conversation distance.  I'm pleased.  I can never have too many blue shirts.

Fun Fact:  According to @spiermackay this is the first unfused extreme spread (a soft cutaway) that they have done.

What type/designs of fabrics are you looking for in particular?

Hi guys,

Just to let you know I received my OCBD shirt with the new, updated collar (with a very slight fusing, à la Kamakura) that was discussed earlier in this thread.

I'm going to be taking pictures later this week to post on this thread, but believe me, the new and improved collar is very nice!

No, I had to send back to Spier & Mackay an OCBD for exchange, and Rick offered me to guinea pig S&M's new collar! Well, in a sense, I guess this is almost MTO like, seeing as how they sewed a "Custom" tag in the yoke, instead of the usual "Contemporary" tag.

Looks like you owe us some photos then.

Here is to Oxford Cloth Spread Collars!

Suitsupply always does the washed/denim light blue cutaway.  One of the guys who works in their section at bloomingdales wears it somewhat frequently.  I always thought that a light blue oxford would look better.  Turns out I was right.  I'm surprised more brands don't do this.

@spiermackay - Actually, I am looking now, and it seems that you have what I was looking for. Maybe it was out of stock at the time.

However, if I can make a suggestion, it would be helpful to see a photo of a full shirt in all the different fabrics, even if it is done virtually. For example, if you look at all the photos of fabric MT-1000, sky blue royal twill, it's hard to tell what the final shirt will look like. I assume it will be a nice, solid, light blue, but the pics look like it could be a fine stripe. Having a full shirt pic would help visualize, I think. Also, the medium blue fine twill might be great for me, or it may be a touch too dark. A full shot from a bit of a distance would eliminate any doubt.

EDIT - on second glance, some more staple business shirts at this price would be great. Personally, I'm not crazy about multi-stripe looks, like the Howland stripe, or Trifield stripe, so once those are removed, there are very few options at the lower price point. Basically, I'm looking for staples, so tons of very light blue in solids, simple stripes, or business appropriate checks are the majority of what I'd buy, and what I have bought from other MTM companies.

I did another review for S&M, this time for the MTM shirts.  I'm still learning, so my videos aren't of the greatest quality, but oh well.

Spier and Mackay MTM shirt review

@spiermackay - OK, now with a few more minutes to browse, maybe this is a better example. I can see myself ordering multiple shirts in this fabric if it was available MTM. And maybe it's the same as one of the MTM twills, but it doesn't appear so in the pics.

Hi guys, here are as promised some pictures of my S&M new OCBD with the improved collar (very light fusing, à la Kamakura - although Rick could further explain the details of said collar):

On it's own, unbutonned:

With a sport coat, unbutonned (I took the liberty to include one and two button undone):

With a sport coat and tie (please excuse the weak knot and anorexic dimple, it's the best this SuitSupply's tie allows):

Please let it be known that this jacket is unfortunately too small in the chest. I wasn't knowledgeable enough before to understand that, and now it's too late to proceed to an exchange. Currently hunting a better fitting proper blue sport coat (50R in Havana and Hudson are hard to come by; I didn't know before you had to size up from your Napoli size).

Another picture to illustrate the collar roll and "unrumpledness":

If you have any more questions, please let them be known!

Thank you!
