I talked about basket-weave loafers and I find Top Man selling them (a bit naff, but still). If I mention the name of a horse, back it.

I finally found a pic' of these. We called them crossovers, I remember them being a lot better looking than these (may be mistaken obviously) but the first pair of leather shoes I was keen on and proud to wear. Mid 70s?

They were very popular on the Northern scene around 1973 IIRC Cleav?I had a pr of the Tan combination, and they did look much better when broken in and after playing around with different polishes. One of my favorite shoes of the past, but certainly only one that could be worn by kids today.

Interestingly, the Boxtops were known to us as Blockbusters.I still remember looking in the window at them one sunny Sunday morning down at Chapel St Market in 1971.Shopping really was a thrill back then !

^ funny that, the first year that came into my head was 1973 too even though the site says 1974.

I loved mine G, though I remember them looking a bit more sleek than that, never mind. It was the only black shoes I had till I bought some loafers and they got worn to death. Pretty sure (positive actually) mine wouldn't have been '73/74. more 76/77 coinciding with a holiday tour around Scotland via caravan in that blistering summer. I remember Oban, Fort William and Stirling Castle in particular. Don't remember what happened to the crossovers, may be binned after the sweltering 76 heat!

Well I moved from the Midlands to the South in the Spring of '74 and I am pretty sure  I had been wearing them for a while prior to that point. That and the fact that I had pretty much given up on the Northern Soul fashion influences at that time makes me think it was '73?

I could be wrong…..but so could they.

1976 was THE Summer of ALL Summers for more reasons than just the mercury rising Cleav !

I was in Scotland on a school trip in the summer of 76 Cleav.
Maybe you were that well-dressed young pup I saw at Stirling Castle!

Looking forward to it !

I liked both pubs where we went before, Mr K, but i preferred The Clachan, with a more 'traditional' atmosphere. I'm sure we'll find a nice pub anyway... I'll only be in London for the day, the West end would be more convenient, but i'll follow the move.

Maybe our Londoners @Inks, or @skinny legs, or @Bela Kun may have an idea ?

Yes, looking forward to it too and very happy to take recommendations.

The FC this week on Herringbone has produced some interesting entries with some giving a passing nod to the Look:

If you're talking about The Clachan in Kingly St, then it's a long-ish and interesting stroll from where I intend to stay for the night, so that'll do nicely for me.

It worked well last July so why not do it again?

Plenty of shops to check out including Oi Polloi, Liberty's second-hand section, Brooks Brothers, etc, etc...
