That is known as a Nordic sweater and is part of the Ivy thing. Woolovers do nice ones.

The jumpers with a pronounced yoke or hoop do tend to be described as Norwegian or Icelandic online. Makes me wonder if there are a whole lot of distinctions that are lost to us as we lump them all in as Fair Isle or 'ski jumpers'. Those Norwegians eh..., shoes and jumpers too - how come we never hear of the Norwegian influence on the look?

I had a Woolovers v-neck that went baggy after one wash. Just saying.

They did influence it but early on via the Ivy League style. As you probably know(and I believe it has been discussed here before) the name Bass "Weejuns" came from Bass's duplicating a shoe that was worn by Norwegian fishermen. As far as the jumpers/sweaters go, they were worn as part of the Ivy look as well.

Not sure all the Norwegian influence came via the Ivy League look though. Solatio was a UK company and Fair Isle is actually part of the territory of the UK. I would guess we knew them as 'ski jumpers' from their association with skiing, which would be nordic or alpine.

Going back to Solatios I have found it impossible to locate any pics of their earlier, mid to late 60s styles, which were not at all chunky.  They were much slimmer and in the mod style that @Man-of-Mystery refers to.  I had two pairs, one in dark brown with a plain vamp and the other in black and  like the ones shown above with a plaited / woven front.  The toe shape was not unlike my current Church's Glen ankle boots.  The stitching around the toe was similar too:

Me too. Argyle sweater.

But I have the Woolovers Nordic and it is true to size and has lasted well over the years.

The Poll is up over on the Friday Challenge and some interesting Ivy pieces but I'm not sure if any of the entries (including mine) do justice to the great man.

Mr. K, care to share a link to the Friday Challenge?

I tell ya, I'm tempted to nab one of these Fairisle v-neck slipovers and put it away till the trend dies(one year at most?) and don it over a buttondown, maybe under a blazer. Again, to bring up Cordings, their lambswool jumpers are by THE best I've worn and don't pill like LL Bean or even J Press's offerings. And no, this ain't a paid advert 😂
