Yes Jerry they are above the $400. They are In the $850 range and do include trees, shipping and custom charges. You can't go wrong with Rider either. Great person to deal with if he has the shoes you want.

At least you need an arch support with your flat feet. You should consider this, when you buy the shoes. It can be built in by a good cobbler.

Thanks Soileauj for the added info about the Vass pricing and for the recommendation for Ron (?) Rider. Maybe I finally have his name correct!

And, Fritzl, I'm in my early 50's now but when I was in my teens, yes I needed built-in "arch supports." I haven't really needed them in my adulthood, or at least haven't yet found a podiatrist I have confidence in. I tend to be a stubborn guy about going to doctors! My girlfriend is very concerned because when I walk my right foot involuntarily turns almost 45 degrees to the right instead of pointing straight forward, and the left side (instep?) of the same foot sort of "rolls" over the left side of the shoe. So definitely I have more issues (at least with the right foot) than merely flat feet.

You may already know that but this is called pronation.

I have the opposite issue - I supinate, i.e. my foot sometimes rolls over on the ankle side, which caused a couple of bad ankle sprains.

Everybody pronates or supinates to a certain degree. If you find that it causes you to trip frequently (foot rolling over). You should see a doctor who will prescribe some shoe inserts to correct the problem.

Otherwise, for maximum comfort, you should go for "straighter" last shoes (i.e. not with too much curvature)

Thanks for your latest reply fritzl, I wasn't offended by your other one, no worry there, and, no gdl203, I did not know of this term. The foot situation will bear watching but fortunately it has NOT caused me to trip- yet!
