Also, how much did it cost for removal?

I have 2 bottom ones that are coming out almost sideways. They tend to hurt off and on so I'm planning to have them looked at soon.

Why do they call it "wisdom" anyways?

"wisdom" i think because they come in at a later age, supposedly when you are wiser.

2nd year @ UCR (as in Costa Rica). Not sure how much it'll run me yet, but I'm sure far less than US prices.

Well, it's done. I showed up early to take a sedative...which really did nothing but slow my heart beat a bit. They then injected a muscle relaxant into my hip and began local anesthesia on my gums. I figure it was about 7+ injections for my 3 teeth. Process took about 20 mins or so I'd say and I was conscious the entire time although I tried listening to my ipod to be distracted from the pressure and jarring. Most of my mouth was numb for the first 3 hours and now it's back to normal. No swelling so far but there is some pain to let me know it's there.

Surgeon was pretty young and cocky, talking to the nurse almost the whole time, but not once did I feel like he wasn't on top of everything.

Quck question: how long do I keep this gauze in my mouth?

Take it out when it gets bloody. Put in new gauze. Stop putting in gauze when you go to sleep, or when there's only a trace of blood on it.

I had the first of mine out last week - woke up one night in pain, it felt like it was growing directly into my cheek. Went to sleep that night a little sore, but from the next morning on it was fine. In 3 weeks i get the two from the other side out, and later in they year the last one out; there's quit a bit of the gum line over it so it might be a bit of a hassle.

The dentist told me to keep it in there for 30 minutes at a time, with your mouth closed with 'natural pressure'.

I had mine taken out this morning, had both down the bottom, leading to my teeth cramming a bit. They put me under general, and 5 hours later still can't feel any pain. They gave me a local in my mouth as well, so my bottom lip, tongue and cheeks are completely numb still, should be gone in a few hours though.

I was prescribed antibiotics, 2 day half an hour before meals, and two different lots of pain killers. Hasn't been much bleeding at all, there was just a little bit hanging around the right side of my mouth. Kept a tissue there for 15 mins and it's all gone, hasn't shown up again yet. Hopefully that means they came out easily and will recover quickly.

Whilst we're talking about wisdom teeth, does anyone have any meal suggestions for the few days after extraction? I'm eating ice cream at the moment with jelly and yoghurt, and mum's making me some soup tonight, not supposed to eat any solid food for a few days.

am i one of the few in the world who never has to pull his wisdom teeth out? i have all four wisdom teeth showing and i can see them in the mirror. all my dentists who have encountered my wisdom teeth marveled at the fact that they can harmoniously and peacefully be in my mouth since jr high school. yes, i had wisdom teeth since i was in my early teens.

I'm planning a full diet of oreo protein shakes, applesauce, and soup. Couldn't ask for anything better.

I had my two bottom wisdom teeth taken out this afternoon. The doc put about two shots into my left side and said he was just going to check with his tool if my gums were numb. They werent so he put two more shots in. The whole time he was just telling me that he was checking, saying he was applying pressure and asking me if it was a lot or little pressure. He did it to the other side the same way talking to me the whole time. I honeslty did not feel any pain when he was doing this and didnt t hink he was doing anything at all and just checking if the novacaine was working. When he was "done" checking the pressure on the other teeth he took some gauze and put it in my mouth twice and then said I was done. I didnt evne realize it. He gave me a few painkillers before the novacaine saying when the numbness goes away in a couple of hours it will hurt and I should just take them now. Well its been like 8 hours and I havnt felt a bit of pain. He told me to take the vicadin till tommorow and I shoudl be fine and also the antibiotics for a few more days. The procedure went very well and my teeth came out pretty easily...to the point where I didnt really even notice. I know that he was applying pressure into my tooth but I thought it would take a bit more effor then what he did. I think he took both teeth out under a few minutes after the novacaine shots...

Told me not to spit or use straws as those would cause pain

I was suprised how easily my top two came out considering they were both still under the gum. I figured a lot more cutting would need to be done but the first one came out in under a minute. Just super fast.

The worst was the bottom one as it was infected and had been impacted. Took much more pressure to take out but still no big deal.

Spitting or using straws won't cause pain, rather, they could likely cause a clot to come undone which is known as a "dry socket." This WILL cause more pain and delay healing.

Did you hear anything about mouthwashing/teeth brushing/etc?
