What tie to wear with a black suit and white shirt?

Going to a formal event/party. I have a black blazer and black pants. I'd like to wear a white shirt underneath since I like the clean look. I have a black tie but I think it's too simple. My girlfriend will be wearing pink, so I was thinking maybe go with a pink and white tie? On the other hand I was thinking a black/white tie would also look good?

How do these look guys?:

Matching with my girlfriend isn't really a MUST, it'd be nice though.

Hi.  In my personal opinion, out of those 4 choices you posted, I would go with the second one (pink & white stripes) if you want to match with your girlfriend's outfit.  If not pink, then my choice would be the black with red & white stripes just to bring additional color other than black & white on yourself.

Frankly, I do not like any of those tie choices. If you must match your girlfriend, I would get a solid pink tie rather than something with white stripes. Otherwise, a solid black tie is actually a decent choice and you could probable get something in lighter shade of blue or grey if you were so inclined. The white shirt is the correct choice here since most other shirt colors are not going to look good next to a black jacket.

I also would not wear a black jacket and black pants separately. If you are talking about an actual suit (i.e. you bought the two together and they are meant to be worn together), you can disregard this comment. There are a lot of different shades and textures of colors, so an individual jacket and pair of trousers in the same color are not going to look good together. In general, do not try to pass of jackets and pants of similar color as a suit. You would be much better off wearing the black jacket with medium grey pants if you have them or just wearing a suit you own if that is an option.

I won't say anything about the choice to wear a black suit, since it sounds like your going to an evening social event (if you want to learn more on this point, use the search function).

One of the black ties. Don't match your girlfriend. You are not a fashion accessory.

^ Way too much going on with that tie. Don't even know where to start.

I like it. Plaid ties are hardly that outlandish, and it's black, gray and white with a pink accent, which is hardly a radical color combination. Absolutely nothing wrong with it unless you're unilaterally against pink. Conservative? No, but it's a tasteful choice for a party.

Oh, and OP- really, if you didn't buy it as a suit, don't try to pretend. People will notice and it will look off. If you have a black jacket that you purchased without matching pants, wear gray pants.

Nothing against pink personally or plaid for that matter, but I think that tie is one of the most hideous ties I have ever seen.

Agreed!

Also, how wide are the lapels on the jacket? If narrow then opt for a narrower tie.
