Even though I don't plan on ordering anything, I'm a little bummed that I didn't get an official invitation. I mean, how many pairs must one buy to be considered a VIP customer anyway? wink.gif

Agreed, Pepper. Not a peep from my usual contacts. Maybe because I've been too harsh on AE's new styles smile.gif

But after they butchered my Natty Shell Leeds last year, I'm not sure I'd want to anyway.

Odd, right? My last 2 MTOs turned out fine. I just haven't been buying AE anymore because I've discovered Vass.

I've become mainly an Alden man since I really dislike the direction AE has taken (and I like the chunkier Alden styles anyway). PaulG has hinted at a rebooted MTO program, but I have this suspicion they'll screw it up somehow -- kinda like the latest shell thing where you can't customize anything but the leather! We got in while the going was good, Pepper.

Looking good as usual, watch! Navy shell? Works great against the eggplant trousers. The exposed eyelets aren't too shabby either! smile.gif

Thanks! Picked up the eyelet thing from the master MTOer himself ;-)

Edit: yes navy!

Love vass, just not styles I need...more pointed style...Alden is great as they do core boots then offer a ton of leather options.
VIBERG...limited styles but the bulk fits my husky body and wardrobe perfect.
Carmina, Edward Green fall into the Vass category for me.

Also have a few alfred sargents.

Once the AE mto program went away I started buying from all different makers

Soooo... You're saying that they're the same?

My thoughts as well about being overlooked. Then, yesterday, I got a voicemail from Jacob at one of the local stores. Limited to 450 pairs, he said. Unfortunately, there is nothing I need in burgundy, brown or black.

WI - Kudos on the blue shell MacNeils. They are outstanding!

We've discussed this before, but check out some of the rounder Vass last's like Peter 2 and Budapester. Then add a honking goyser welt and a full Vibram lug sole or dainite or double JR., in any upper leather or pattern combination of your choice. Complete full MTO customization for only 100 more than the previous AE single MTO price. No brainer!

Yes, they called burgundy "cherry" last year during the trunk shows.

Oh, I didn't realize that - thanks for clarifying.

The shoe I'm coveting is the burgundy shell Bradley, but with modifications (shiny brass eyelets, natural edge, etc.).  If cherry was somehow different than burgundy, I was prepared to pull the trigger now to take advantage of the unusual color, and just have a third party do the modifications I want.  As things stand now, however, this MTO doesn't benefit me at all - I would just end up getting the stock model for the same price I can pay anytime.  So, I guess I'll continue to wait for a "real" MTO program so I can get exactly what I want.

I agree with you regarding the MTO aspect.

I have the Peter 2 with goyser and it is beautiful but still much more narrow towed than what I have been going for. The boot I have is actually a touch small on me..wearable but a touch small...it is so friggin beautiful though I can not sell it..lol. With out a doubt Vass is my favorite more so than Edward Green even. I really should have jumped on a 82 last shearling galway when they were not so ridiculous priced but I missed that train.
