OFFICIAL UPDATE: Allen Edmonds SF Group MTO

Gentlemen,

Before anything else, Paul would like to thank us for our continued support for Allen Edmonds. He was amazed with the our knowledge of "shoe componentry" - a term he used - and thinks that the make ups we've come up with are going to look excellent.

I would also like to apologize for making you guys wait for this update since yesterday. There was a lot of back and forth yesterday on minimum orders, pricing and payment. While not all will be to our liking, I think some will be delighted about some of the results of these discussions with Paul.

On to the nitty gritty of this GMTO...

After a brief round of internal discussion to finalize the specs of some of the make ups, here finally are the final make-ups. Marked in blue are the specs that changed. Changes to any make up will no longer be entertained. Ive also listed the members who have already committed to ordering these make-ups.

Make Up 1: Eagle County on Brown shell cordovan with tone-on-tone stitching; Chili flat welt; Mini-lug tap sole with leather midsole; medium brown edge dressing; brass eyelets and speedhooks, with the 3 top most being speedhooks; Independence insole & lining (6 orders)

As you may have observed, the Dublin Townley and the Chili Grain EC are no longer listed. This is primarily because of the low committed orders (3 for the chili grain EC and 4 for the dublin Townley). This brings me to the minimum quantity, which is in fact why it took me so long to update because that was the topic being discussed yesterday with Paul. The minimum quantity per style asked by Paul to meet is 12 each. According to him, their efficiency makes a quantum leap per 12 pairs of shoes, so I can only assume that some components come in lot size of 12 so anything less generates wastes (this is only my assumption). As of right now, only the Merlot EC meets the minimum. Paul asked that only those orders that meet a minimum of 12 orders next week shall be processed and those that wont will just have to wait until the minimum is met.

A lot of us might be disappointed by now, but there are 2 positive things that came out from the discussion with Paul. To help attract more orders I've asked for discount on make ups that meet 12 orders and a 50% on order, 50% on shipping payment term (vs the status quo of 100% on order). Here is what we agreed:

On payment, instead of 50/50, they will instead charge 100% at shipping. So weve got 8-12 weeks of saving up for our GMTOs haha.

On the topic of pricing, here are the prices that Pauil has offered for our make-ups. In addition to waiving off the custome fee, AE has agreed to an additional 10-20% off for this GMTO. I hope they meet expectations.

Make-Up 1. Eagle Country in Brown Shell Cordovan - $650 (vs MSRP of $725 for the comparable Dalton boot)
Mak-Ups 2-5. Eagle County Boot in various leathers - $295 (vs MSRP of $350 for Long Branch boot)
Make-Up 6. Townley Shoe in Brown Shell Cordovan - $575 (vs MSRP of $650 for cordo shoes)
Make-Up 7. Townley in Chestnut Dublin - $275 (vs $325 for the Rush Street) Officially dead for now

So what are the next steps, over the next 4-5 days I will open up another webform to accept the FINAL orders and sizes. Everybody still has to fill up the survey even if your name is already on the list above. And for everybody else not on the list above, you may still join in!

I do expect that the people on the lists above confirm their orders as your commitment was the basis for the minimum orders AE would receive and thus the discount given. I hope we can return AEs support for this project by keeping our end of the deal. I am hoping that with the payment terms and the discounted pricing, we will actually buy more.

Those make ups that make the magic number will then be processed. The remaining ones will then just have to wait or cancelled. Of course I will try my best to convince Paul to still process it, but maybe with adjusted pricing?

For orders that will be processed, I will send the names, emails, and order details to Allen Edmonds via email and I will CC everbody who ordered. Invoicing will be done by AE on an individual basis through the email address you will provide in the survey.

NOTE:
- AE will still have to confirm if all the sizes in our GMTO are available in the lasts used for the EC and Townley. I will handle this discussion.

You can enter your orders and sizes here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ae-sf-orderconfirmation

Lastly, if youve already voted, but want to ADD to your order, you may take the survey again, this time ONLY ticking the make ups you want to add (don't tick the ones youve previously submitted).

UPDATE: If youd like to get an idea how each make up will look, please visit http://pinoylifestyleidiot.com/2014/09/07/news-allen-edmonds-group-mto-make-up-mock-ups/

regards,
Dale

Thanks @watchidiot for the work you are putting into this GMTO. It is very appreciated and potentially the start of something very nice for future GMTO's.

Everyone should throw in an extra $10 or $20 on their pair and thereby buy your pair for free for all the effort you have put into this.

+1 would be happy too....

Thanks Gentlemen. If you can strong arm one more person to order that brown grain EC, that makes it 12 orders - that would be good enough for me!

Well love the price, thrilled about the merlot...sad about the navy...have to say if the shell boot was bayfield I would have been in....if the navy fails to meet the number then you can add my name to the ec brown grain for the 12th...however if another comes on for it then I would bow out.

For the Townly if you guys get close...add me in that shoe is friggin great.

HI Kahuna, if you enter your name in the navy, then well take it from there, I can always move people around especially for make ups that dont make the cut. I will also make sure you know if the Townley makes it or gets close to it.

Dale, this is indeed excellent news. I'm sure that we can scare up three more orders for the navy calf EC, especially at this price!

I feel the same way about navy / merlot. Let's see what happens this week

WatchIdiot, thanks for all your help. This minimum order has me in a bit of a bind now. I was going to have my shoes shipped to Canada and pick them up there at Christmas. But if they won't be ready by then, I'm not sure what to do. If it takes more than another month, say, to put together 12 people, I might not be able to do it. I'll think about it, though, and keep you and the others posted.

Best to just put your name behind the make up now and well see where it is next week. If by next week the targets aren't met then I can always take you out.

WI, thanks for the time you put in on this GMTO!

I've been watching from the sidelines as I didn't want to 'commit' & then pull out if not pleased with the final makeups. That said, definitely interested in either the brown grain or Merlot calf EC. Does anyone have pics of these two?

Also, what last are these? I wear a 9.5E in the Leeds for comparison purposes.

The merlot EC cN be found a few pages back. Brown grain 1040 is currently not used in any AE model but the grain pattern is similar to the chili grain MacNeil. 1 page back you can see the comparison between the swatches. The brown Grain EC is inspired by the brown grain jumper boot by Carmina x skoaktiebolaget and the Carmina 973 x GF.

OK, just did it. For the Townley, is everyone going TTS? I checked the AE page on the Townley (calf) and it seems a few people there say it runs a bit large/wide but there aren't enough responses to really know. Anyone out there who already has a shell Townley and can comment?

I have 8.5d in the bayfield, Dundee and Leeds and they all work so I just went for the same on the Townley.
I am around 8.25d on the Brannock so sizing down to an 8d is just a bit too tight on the 1 last. 8E would probably be ideal in the Dundee and also the Dalton though.
