I think what is so striking about the scene is how intimate the setting is. War films depict violence in sprawling landscapes and show many victims, but every aspect of that one scene (In
Irreversible) makes it automatically relatable. In that, this is the kind of brutality that not only happens daily, but happens in places that are commonly frequented (clubs and bars), unlike movies that showcase the brutality of war.
