What do you wear on your feet in your house?

Kind of self explanatory.

In my nyc apartment scenario, shoes come off pretty quick when I'm home, and I'm generally barefoot or in socks, unless its really cold in which case Ugg slippers.

If I was planning on going out again soon or had company, my shoes would stay on.

I find the "take of your shoes" rule annoying when I go to someone's house with that rule, discuss. At least in a less casual setting.

In bedrooms and stuff I would generally take shoes off. You kind of have to make a judgment on whether your shoes are dirty or clean.

It's a cultural thing in many cases. Regardless, when a guest I respect the wishes of my host/ess. It doesn't annoy me at all.

And it gives me a reason to wear fancier socks ...

Socks or barefoot, depending on the temperature.

Can't see the point of keeping shoes on, really.

But here's the weird thing: if people are coming over and they include people I only know a little rather than close friends, or if it's a reasonably smart occasion rather than just lounging around, I'll have shoes on and would not expect others to remove theirs. And I never automatically take my shoes off when visiting other people's homes. Naturally if they request it - or I've been there before and know that's the case - then obviously I'd remove them... but I'd never do it automatically if it was my first time visiting them.

Shoes off in a home feels very casual & relaxed, so I only do it when I'm by myself or with people I know well. I can't say I really intellectually justify the difference, but there it is anyway!

I wear these leather slippers. Not sure if they are considered as truly cheap.

i have a pair of velvet slippers. i only wear them rarely, with black tie. Wouldn't think of wearing them around the house.

I think that if I lived in a large, cold & rickety house, I'd consider slippers. But in a warm, carpeted flat? No point.

Here, it's expected that you remove your shoes when you enter someone's home. Many have slippers that they offer to guests. I will often invite people to wear their shoes inside, but many decline.

I am never in my place with shoes on. If I have company, they take their shoes off. It's not a cultural think for me. It's a "I have nice wood floors" thing.

I like those a lot. I have seen a few travel style slippers from the English makers, but they didn't seem terribly substantial. I had a pair of RLPL cashmere slippers with suede soles. They were always a bit small and never stretched to my liking. Maybe I'll try these.
