The navy odd trousers got hashed out elsewhere: http://www.styleforum.net/t/375309/noodles-good-natured-advice-thread/2955

Useful links to some old discussions.

For me, one of these works and one really doesn't. What do you guys think when you see these side by side?

For me, the top one is pretty good and the second one not so much. The top is a little bit facile because it's "tied together" in obvious ways like the shoes and tie being similar, and it being somewhat monochromatic. But it is tied together. There's good contrast between all the pieces but they still integrate into a visual whole.

The second one doesn't do that. The jacket and pants are too close to the same tone and look muddy. The shoes pop randomly. The tie is getting washed out a bit - that's a nice tie, but it's tough to find ways to wear it. Each piece could be nice with something else, but together, for me, they don't work.

I agree with this. And I really like Stitchy's recent attempts to do some different things and experiment with limited palettes etc. It shows a growing confidence in how he dresses and that he's some way past worrying about the basics (so post those navy pants!). I do agree with the comments further up about the first fit that the shoes could have had more contrast, and ideally (for me) the tie would have been a totally different colour - but that would have defeated the point of the experiment. The second fit is, for someone of Stitches' increasingly high standards, sleep-walking. It's average and it's easy.

And Anden make a remark, that he missed that club here with his two 19 votes outfits. So the outfits have now 20 votes.

Here's my 20+ fit pic.

So I don't want this to become a thing where we all post our own 20+ pictures. Then it really would just be a circle jerk. Also, clusters of images are good. Patterns and trends are easier to pick out then.

I promise I'll get to them...and if I somehow miss a picture, feel free to post it here. But I've not gone through this last week, and I probably won't for another week.

On another note, I believe I liked 3 of those four fits. My favorite being Anden's sitting picture. I have no idea why the first of Anden's fits didn't really speak to me--that's the sort of thing that's right up my alley. Maybe it was the shoes (I'm anti-loafer, despite wanting a pair. If I wore chinos, I'd have some in a heartbeat).

I liked dDson's outfit, but it's actually a little busy for my tastes. A once and a while thing, yes. A once a week thing might be a bit much. Then again, I'm a fairly boring and conservative dresser most of the time. So. You know. Grains of salt and all that.

For a winter time uniform I think the monks are the better choice. The loafer and the more formal cut of jacket (shoulders and chest) clashes a bit. My next purchase will be suede shoes...
