Based on that excellent compilation I would say that in general a darker deeper brown and a true lighter gray or what works best with charcoal pants.

I was thinking that very light browns into the cream or even yellow seam to pair well with charcoal trows. *Not all of these are charcoal pants for sure, but as they photograph as near charcoal, 'same diff'.

 

 

 

 

Also I had dark trousers and 'bourbon' shoes on yesterday while trying on a blue houndstooth like the one below and felt like the look jived. (Actually I thought I looked awesome but Hell this stuff is expensive. I'll see if it's on sale nearer the holidays).

 

 

*Apologies to Claghorn as I don't know that all of these fits hit the 20 thumb standard.
